Please bear in mind that the ADL do not speak for all Jews, and that they are a small but incredibly vocal organization that end up acting like a walking, talking advertisement for anti-Semitism. I guarantee you that most Jews don't care one way or another.

Out of all the threads I've read at DVD Talk, the handful about The Passion have definitely been the most disturbing. I guess the anonymity of the internet allows people to feel a little more free in allowing their prejudices to bubble up from beneath surface, but it's scary just how easy the hatred and ignorance does flow whenever somebody opens up this can of worms. All you have to do is bring up The Passion and DVD Talkers start outing themselves as anti-Semites, Holocaust deniers, racists and just plain old ignoramuses.

I dont see any comments like this is these threads. Maybe you could point some of them out to me?

You could probably start by looking at your own "satiric" anti-PC backlashing. I'm not going to dredge up comments and arguments that got past threads closed, so beyond that, you should just read for yourself. It's all there, from somebody doubting the veracity of the Holocaust to someone claiming that the Jews are to blame for the world's ills to all other degrees of ugliness.

I spend a lot of time reading at dvd talk and I have yet to see any posts stating that there was no Holocaust or that the Jews are responsible for the ills of the world.

Do your own search to read more.

This quote is (im pretty sure) sarcastic and even if it wasnt it says "was all of it true?" . It never said that the holocaust never happend.

You know, you can take any proven, historical event -- like the Cambodian killing fields, the Holocaust, the Stalinist purges, Japanese genocide and appalling human rights abuses in China, the Phillipines, and elsewhere -- and deny it by saying its just another "biased look at history", that documented atrocities are based on "mouth-to-mouth facts", and thus without any given proof or evidence outright, denounce them as "not being historically accurate."

I think whoever wrote that aforementioned quoted statement about "Schindler's List" pretty much wore his true colors on his sleeve there... which is fine, this is a free country (depending on where you're located, of course.) But let's not mince words about who's denying what.

I like my racists honest and out in the open, right where I can see 'em.

Now with that out of the way, I simply cannot wait for The Passion to come out. I think it's a fascinating project (Mel should never have relented on the subtitles), plus we've got Monica Bellucci in historical dress. That's motivation enough, methinks.

You can manufacture whatever excuses you like for the person who wrote those words, but the thread is still there for everyone to see. Read in context along with the follow-up comments, it is perfectly clear that the statement wasn't meant to be sarcastic.

Hopefully we can put that ugly part of the discussion to rest now.

I didnt manufacture anything. He never said the Holocaust didnt happen and I read it again and that was sarcasm. It seems like the you go into every "The Passion" thread looking for a fight. Ive emailer the author of that quote asking him to come here and tell you two if that was sarcasm or not.

You know, Abraham Foxman and the ADL have shown their true colors by not speaking a single word about the film Gospel of John. But then again, this movie doesn't have one of the biggest actors in the world producing and directing it, so where's the publicity in that? Maybe Foxman and Jesse Jackson should exchange notes.

I haven't seen it. I don't know. People should see it for themselves. If some religious organization (looking for media coverage) or any organization gets in people's way from seeing a movie there will be HELL TO PAY!!! But I doubt its not going to come to that. The religious organizations are going to gain a few more members, some funds, and publicity and Mel is going to sell a few more tickets.

Win. Win.
