People found that it's better to start with opposed to starting with 2.

Someone's been downloading workprints..

The one refers to the first reel.
You'll notice after around 20 minutes or so, it'll change to
2:00:00

I haven't seen alot of workprints, but the couple that I remember seemed to stay at (1 hour + the actual running time) until the end of the movie.

At least that's how I remember them.

This is right, with A/B reels. A typical hour & a half movie will have 5 reels, a 2 hour movie will usually have 6 or so. This is is a timecode reference for everyone working on the film (composers, sound designers, etc), so that when everyone gets to the final mix, everyone is synched up. The correct way to do it is to have the film actually start at 1:00:08:00, so that the first frame of the film is after an 8 second countdown. There are also numbers that keep track of the footage over the course of the film. This is used mostly by editors or anyone working on the actual images of the film.
