Are any of the Shaw Brothers classic available in its original language?
Yeah, Kid with the Golden Arm, The Five Deadly Venoms, Immortal Combat, ect...
First off, the translation is hilarious even after all these years. Sometime it's so bad that you miss the plot. OK ok, there's not much of a plot but still.

That's one of the line they like to use over and over. Classic!
Anyhow I love them all. I'm sure in it's original language, the mood might be a bit different. I speak and understand Cantonese so sure would like to see the originals. Actually they might be in Mandarin. I have no idea.

P.S. love how they usually die. They have to lose gallons of blood and then do that 1000 turn and twist on the floor before falling flat with their bloodshot eyes wide open

Celestial Entertainment in Asia acquired the rights to the Shaw library a couple years ago. They've been restoring many of the movies, some of which can be seen in the Heroic Grace film festival which is going around the country---currently playing at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston---I'm goin' this weekend--woo-hoo!
Many of these have already been released on Region 3 DVDs over the last year. I believe a deal has been struck with Miramax to start releasing Region 1 versions by the end of the year, and I'm fairly sure they will have the original language. I don't speak Chinese so I'm not sure about this, but I believe the 60's Shaw swordplay movies were Mandarin, and most of the 70's kung fu were in Cantonese.
