Daddy Day Camp

From www.cinescape.com

Revolution Studios is working on a sequel to DADDY DAY CARE, their box office hit starring Eddie Murphy. Titled DADDY DAY CAMP, the sequel is being written by scribes Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow (TOY STORY). The idea is to coax Murphy back to reprise his frenzied stay-at-home Dad in the sequel which would see him placed in charge of a childrens daycamp; the actor hasn't signed any deals with Revolution yet.

Also back are the original film's trio of producers, John Davis, Wyck Godfrey and Matt Berenson. DADDY DAY CARE proved to be one of this summer's success stories for Sony Pictures, grossing more than $100 million dollars at theaters. The film hits home video on September 23.

I can't believe they'd consider doing this... if this summer should have taught the studios anything, it's that people don't need sequels to mediocre movies... I don't think ANY ONE leaving the theatre after seeing Daddy Day Care was thinking "That was great, I'd love to see part 2".... I know I sure wasn't....

someone should make Coming To America 2 instead

Forget Murphy. That dude's career has been over for a long time now. What I am boggled about is why writers for Toy Story are working on this craptacular sequel? Get back to Pixar and help write Toy Story 3!

Their contribution to Toy Story was probably minimal at best.

He'll sign. He will sign for damn near anything - which is sad. Eddie is really a good actor, but he is over-exposed and the reason he is over-exposed is because he signs onto almost anything. I don't think he even cares if the script is good or not, he just signs the dotted line.

As sad as it is, at this point in his career he's probably better off sticking to family films. They're the only thing he's having hits with these days. I seriously doubt he'll ever go back to the raunchy mode, as Chris Rock, Dave Chapelle, Bernie Mac, and others have taken over that role.

Daddy Day Reloaded

Why? it made cash. someone must have seen it because I sure didn't. as for Murphy's career.. it might be sad considering we all know him from his days as a funny stand up comedian, but I suppose this is his new image and in some ways it is working since he obviously created enough interest to warrent a second film.

I took my daughter to see Daddy Daycare, and i was pleasently surprised by it. It was a nice little family pic. Which in my opinion, family pics is the only thing that Hollywood is good for anymore.
Why i agree it may not deserve a sequel, i guess i'm the odd man out by actually enjoying the film.

Despite being 2 years old, I'm glad there was already a thread on this. I just wouldn't have felt right starting one myself. So far this has a dozen or so reviews on rottentomatoes.com and is at 0%. Ouch.

Yet another embarrassment on Cuba Gooding's resume. He must have self-esteem issues or maybe a wicked gambling addiction.

Is he playing the same character as Murphy, or is this a completely new Dad?

Interestingly, this is directed by Fred Savage. That's the only thing it appears to have going for it (and who knows if he even is any good, heh)

This looks like an abortion... I think they're supposed to be the same characters, black guy and larger white dude... man, even Eddie Murphy passed on this and Cuba Gooding Jr. does it... I think I can get Cuba into a movie - looks like you only have to offer him a place to sleep, a hot meal and he's all yours. BRUTAL. Will anyone around here actual see this...and more importantly, will they have the balls to come in here and admit that they saw it?

Oh my gosh, you're right. I just looked on IMDB and those 2 guys have the same character names from the original.

Has the 'sequel with a completely different star' ever worked? Discounting things like Bond, Batman or Jack Ryan where the source material was a bigger draw than the actor, I can't think of one. XXX: State of the Union, Evan Almighty, Son of Mask, Speed 2, etc.

I can't believe Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage) is directed this f**king thing.

Who wanted this? I sure as hell didn't. I'm sure the millions of children who say Daddy Day Care didn't say, "I can't wait for the sequel to this film masterpiece". I can see all the parents who were dragged to Daddy Day Care *Sigh* & start give their kids $$$ cash because they don't want to see it & they'll just give the kids the dough so they can buy it when it's released on DVD.

The thing is that I like Eddie Murphy when he was in the Beverly Hills Cop movies & when he was a regular on SNL he was hilarious. Hell I enjoy his voice acting on the Shrek movies as Donkey but stuff like the The Haunted Mansion, Norbit & Daddy Day Care make me want to wonder why, Eddie, why? at least he has redeemed himself by not agreeing to do the sequel.

Cuba Gooding, Jr. on the other hand is just a sad case. He is such a good actor but yet the films he has signed/done are just pathetic. I'd really like him to see a career comeback in "good movies" & stop appearing in frickin' Hanes commercials.

I can't believe RT has this movie at 0.00%. That is definitely a contender for worst movie ever. Mr. Gooding, Jr. you have a long way to go before you can redeeming yourself as a great actor again. I hope he does but at this rate, things are looking bad, really bad.

According to Box Office Mojo, it made $780,000 on Wednesday... Looks like it'll make a total of, what, $3.5m for the 5-days?
