Mike Judge signs for 2-picture deal at Fox

Variety reports that Mike Judge, best known for creating the "Beavis and Butthead" characters as well as the "King of the Hill" series, has signed to do two films at Fox. The projects would be his first feature films since 1998's "Office Space."
The first, entitled "3001," has a man waking up 1000 years in the future, only to find that the entire population of the world has been dumbed down and that he is now the smartest man alive.
The second, "Meat in the Freezer," is being described as a "Caddyshack" type movie but with deer hunting. Steve Zahn helped develop the concept and will most likely star in the film.

Over at the HTF, the members went thru a big drive to get Fox to do an Office Space SE a few years back, and the Fox rep that posts over there agreed to put it into motion. However, nothing but silence has come out from the studio, and only vague allegations of "somebody stiffing somebody" from the Mike Judge camp.
I think they might have worked things out if they've signed a picture deal, so maybe we'll see an SE pretty soon.

looks like a 2 disc SE office space wont come out
Fox is now anxious to release a special-edition DVD with extras like the original ''Milton'' shorts, but Judge says the studio wants to stiff him on the deal, so he won't sign off. Rather tactfully, all a studio spokesperson will say is that ''discussions are ongoing.''

C'mon... any Office Space fan knows it can't be called Office Space SE, it's got to be called Office Space, the Red Swingline Edition.
Oddly, while the studio seemingly refuses to release a proper transfer of Office Space, let alone a 2 disc set, Swingline Staplers did cave into consumer demand and started making their red staplers again. If we can get a special edition of the stapler, why not the DVD?!?!?! Fox is run by a bunch of idiots, possibly, I think.

Up the Revolution: The Red Stapler! Staple and be heard! WHAM-cubicles! WHAM-dress code! WHAMWHAMWHAM! By popular demand, we?re offering this desk stapler in screaming, gleaming red. Use with caution (unless you?re the boss).

I heard an interview with Mike Judge on NPR's Fresh Air the other day. He seemed like the kindest, most down-to-earth Hollywoodian I've heard. He also makes excellent stuff so it's great that he's back in the saddle.

For Washingtonians: Mike Judge and Don Hertzfeldt will be in attendance at one of the screening of their short's compliation film entitled "The Animation Show" at the AFI's Silver Theatre, September 5th to the 17th, (date and time for Q&A to be announced):
THE ANIMATION SHOW:
"a selection of acclaimed animated short films that spans eight countries and features everything from forgotten classics to the very latest in computer animation"

An SE of Office Space would be great, but given a choice, I'd rather he spend his time making new movies so this "Mike Judge signs for 2-picture deal at Fox" is great news.

Too bad that Judge feels like he is getting screwed by the execs who want a new DVD release of Office Space. It is one of my favorite movies, but I can understand how he felt that they did not promote it the way that it should have been promoted. With so many white collar workers now, it had a big target audience that ended up seeing it on video instead of in the theatre. If it was rereleased as an SE, I have no doubt that it would go to number one on DVD sales charts...
