Just wanted to add some other films that I have enjoyed:

From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiller great children's book adaptation that needs to get released on DVD

Prospero's Books - Peter Greenaway's lush, visually stunning retelling of Shakespear's 'The Tempest' - wow!

Peking Opera Blues - fantastic fun Hong Kong flick that rolls every aspect of a comedic action movie into one.

Caligula - over the top orgy (literally) of sex, gore, and more sex.

Dead or Alive 2: Birds - of the Miike's DOA trilogy this is the is the most striking and visually stunning of the three.

My Brother the Vampire - one the most bizarre and oddly moving German film I have seen this year, revolving around two older siblings and their off-kiltered brother who thinks he is a vampire.

Shogun Assassin - kudo's to the American producers who decided to splice the first two films of this series (featuring all the gory parts) together and release it as one movie.

Let's Scare Jessica to Death - Very creepy 70's movie, haven't seen it since I was a kid, but it totally freaked me out.

A short film no one I know has ever seen, He May be Dead, but He's Still Elvis They dig up Elvis's corpse and take him out on tour, he evn makes another film "Necrophilia Hawaiian Style."

Another State of Mind Good punk rock documentary about a tour in the mid 80's with Social Distortion and Youth Brigade.

****sucker's Blues Robert Frank's documentary on The Rolling Stones. Saw it on a really crappy VHS, lots of groupie action, The Stones had it shelved. They never wanted anyone to see it

Thundercrack! Insane wild film, sort of pornographic starring undergound filmmaker George Kuchar, and a gorilla.

Corrupt also known as Copkiller starring Johnny Rotten himself, along with Harvey Keitel in an Italian made crime thriller.
