Underrated Actors

What are some of the most underrated actors?

I would say Robert Duvall and Charlie Sheen. Those two don't get the attention that they deserve. Duvall was great in Godfather I and II and Apocalypse Now and Sheen was good in Platoon.

Buck Turgidson 07-30-03 02:20 AM

David Straithairn
Michael Rooker
Fred Ward
Peter Weller

PalmerJoss 07-30-03 07:22 AM

Dan Hedaya
Dan Lauria
Alfred Molina

This is just off the top of my head, though.

Numanoid 07-30-03 07:27 AM

Whoa...you're way off base about Duvall. He's been nominated for Academy Awards SIX times and won once, as well as a string of other awards, and would say he is generally regarded by the industry and critics alike as one of the greatest living actors.

My vote goes to Don Cheadle. He steals every scene he's in which is great.

mediabear 07-30-03 08:30 AM

Ian Hart
Robert Carlyle
Toni Collette

dude_dan 07-30-03 08:41 AM

Gary Oldman.

ProjectMayhem 07-30-03 09:32 AM

I'm gonna go with some of the younger, great actors (Yes, they're hard to come by):

Brad Renfro
Nick Stahl
Edward Furlong
Thora Birch
Scarlett Johanson

That's all I can think of off the top of my head...

DonnachaOne 07-30-03 12:32 PM

Sean McGinley, Colm Meaney and Brendan Gleeson

kantboy 07-30-03 12:50 PM

John Goodman. The best actor of the 90's.

And yes, that includes Blues Brothers 2000 and King Ralph. ;)

PixyJunket 07-30-03 12:52 PM

Ben Affleck
Jennifer Lopez

steebo777 07-30-03 01:52 PM

Since we have this thread every week I guess I'll just post my old names.

Rick Gomez
Neal McDonough
Ray Liotta
Gary Oldman

Brian Cox & Guy Pearce & the fact that nobody has posted them only proves that. Cox may be the most diverse actor alive. Look at his body of work & how he transforms in every role. The exact same for Guy Pearce & IMO his role in Memento is among the best pieces of acting ever filmed.

NCMojo 07-31-03 08:54 AM

John Turturro -- he's truly an actor's actor. Great craft, great range... looks like a horse, but he's got chops.

I would have picked Cox, but we had a whole thread about him not long ago, about how great he is and about how he's become ubiquitous of late.

I agree with Fake. I love Brian Cox myself and didn't put him on my list for the very same reason. As for Guy Pearce I believe that he gets enough recognition as it is now. Ever since Memento his career has been in overdrive(I'd love to see him in Chris Nolan's Batman as the titular character).

It's the same reason I didn't put John C. Reilly on my list. He's been one of my favorites for years. Then last year he was EVERYWHERE. So, he and Cox fall off of my 'underrated' list, but I still love 'em.
