Billy Crudup - He looks different in each film that he does and his roles are so varied. Great performances in "Waking the Dead" and "Almost Famous".

Joel 07-31-03 11:33 PM

Another nod for Gary Sinise.

madonna. you know, i think she has all the talent to be a great actress, but not as a lead - which we all know isn't gonna happen.

Michael Biehn
Joh Turturro

I think Gary Sinise is a great actor. For me though, it was Truman that was the clincher. I thought he did a phenomenal job. Make-up was damn good too.

movielib 08-01-03 10:00 AM

Donald Sutherland

OK, I guess my definition of underrated is different that everyone else ;) Most if not all of the people mentioned here usually receive praise for their work. Some even either get nominated or win awards for their performances. Are we talking in terms of ratings and box-office? Or should be more popular (with regular joes like you and me)?

Moefuscious 08-01-03 04:39 PM

Definately Christian Bale

B.A. 08-01-03 05:37 PM

Sean Bean

costanza187 08-02-03 09:22 AM

John C Reily (Spelling?)

Tarantino 08-03-03 12:31 AM

Phillip Seymor Hoffman. Without a doubt.

Oh, and Owen Wilson.

Should be more popular.

Sam Elliot

and Joss Ackland  He usually plays Government Hardasses. Lately he's been doing a lot of Russian roles. I love his rich deep voice. It's full of class.

gmal2003 08-03-03 10:44 PM

2nd Gary Sinise
2nd Don Cheadle
2nd Angela Bassett

adding
Derek Luke (only due to him being new to the biz, i think he might take the torch as the best black actor (who can do roles other than comedy and action) when Denzel Washington is retired.)

Keifer Sutherland (Despite having some good roles (24, Equill.) has been rumored and then overlooked for too many starring gigs he couldve done solidly)

Delroy Lindo (excellent in Crooklyn and X, strong in Gone in 60 seconds)

Jaquin Phoenix (has been in a ton of movies but deserves more starring roles)

Vin Grhames (huge fan, great style, deservant of starring gigs)

Dennis Quaid (gets respect, but not as much as deserved, excellent pure actor)

paradicelost 08-04-03 12:25 PM

Tony Shaloub is the only one that comes to mind. Though he is nominated for an emmy.
I think Kiefer Sutherland was underrated before 24, and in a way i think he still is.
I also second John C. McGinley, he was just awesome in "Intensity"(probably the best and some would say only decent Dean Koontz adaption).
Jeffery Combs, probably one of the best actors who has been in some of historys worst films. I think he is kinda stuck in Bmovie hell(don't get me wrong i love bflicks), he is such a great actor, and his past in the theater really comes through in so many of his roles.

Rypro 525 08-04-03 12:38 PM

I really liked Keifer in the dark scientist role in dark city

My wife just tivo'd a film of his called "After Alice", which the dvd goes by another name(eyes of a killer, maybe). It somewhat of a predictable movie but he does very well in it. Toward the end he seems very much like his Jack character from 24, which the film predates 24 by a few years.
