Empire Question

Can anyone explain Luke's episode in the cave during ESB?

Yoda refers to his 'failure' at the cave. I fancy myself a Star Wars geek, but I do not have a clue about this.

Anyone?

No flaming please!!!

I think you need to look to Jedi for your answer (at least I think it's Jedi). I believe Yoda say something to him along the lines of "You must face Vader before you can become a true Jedi." Having not done so in the cave, it shows two things. 1) I think some foreshadowing is involved. He cuts off the head and sees himself - he already knows on some level that he is Vader's son...??? 2) Knowing this, he knows that in order to become a Jedi he must beat his father, and in turn he'll avoid the path that his father chose. This is what will allow him to beome a Jedi.

Just my thoughts on the subject. While my two part theory may be wrong, I still think Yoda's line is your "simple" answer.

Hope this helps.

To me, it's a little more simple. Yoda was showing that by fighting and commiting violence, you might "win" in the short term, but in the end you're only destroying yourself and consigning yourself to the dark side. True victory is won by using peaceful means and your friends and family to overcome obstacles. This became true when the family bond between Vader and Luke brings the downfall of the Empire.

...I can't believe I've analysing SW....

I believe that the scene simply implies that if Luke continues his brash, angry ways, he will BECOME just like Darth Vader.
