Question about Amelie

One of the things that makes Amelie a great movie are the little quirky details. Last night I was watching this with a friend and we noticed that in the scene where the old man is watching a video that Amelie has prepared for him, there is a bicycle race with a horse running along with the riders. Did this really happen at one of the Tour de France's or is it some other bike race? Please help me settle this trivia question.

I don't know - it probably happened? You might wanna check out the Director's other work - Delicatessen and City of Lost Children in particular.

In his commentary track (on the french DVD) Jean-Pierre Jeunet says it's stock footage he had previously seen in a years end review show on tv. They had to search through hours and hours of footage to find it.

It really happened but he doesn't say when or during what competition.

There are hundreds of bike races a year in France. Probably wasn't footage of the TDF.

If it's the footage I'm thinking of, my guess is that it *is* the Tour de France. I remember seeing that moment (the horse "racing" the cyclists) in one of my Tour de France videotapes, and it caught my eye when I saw Amelie.

I'm pretty certain it was TDF. I thought I remembered seeing the famed Maillot Jaune (yellow jersey) in the shot.

I'm no cycling race expert but I think the yellow jersey is synonymous w/ the TDF and can't imagine it representing anything else.

Yep, I believe the Tour de France is the only stage race that has yellow as the leader's color. The closest one to it is the "gold jersey" of the Vuelta a Espana (Tour of Spain), which is a darker gold rather than bright yellow. The Giro d'Italia (Tour of Italy) has a pink leader's jersey (maglia rosa).
