Please list your favorite ten COOL movies on DVD. The definition of 'Cool' - and yes, this is highly subjective, before the flaming begins - is, of artistic merit, challenging, innovative. The movies might be arthouse, world cinema, classics, experimental new wave. Any genre, but favoring cult status over blockbuster (please don't include stuff like Pearl Harbor and The Bodyguard and Troma trash).

Examples of Cool Cinema might include: Requiem For A Dream, Memento, Rules of Attraction, Run Lola Run, Blair Witch, Ed Wood, Hedwig & the Angry Inch, Se7en, Rear Window, Fargo, Punch-Drunk Love , Etc. Get the emerging pattern?

Please list in order of preference. Will tally up scoring later in similar manner to my previous polls.

Thanks in advance.

I'd like to contribute. But the word "cool" is so subjective, everyone will have their own definition of it. For example a movie like Amelie, I would hardly consider "cool", I found the movie to be terribly nauseating & the title character unbearably annoying. And whereas I think Requim is a great movie, I would hardly call it "cool". I don't mean to be a thread crapper, I just think it's a rather hard question to ask.

Point taken, Sessa, but aren't all polls party to subjectiveness? And isn't that how we derive pleasure, especially here on Talk, discussing our subjective collections and obsessions?

However subjective, I am keen to see other people's definition of COOL and scan these lists. I am always open to suggestion and keen to glean knowlege and discover further prospective 'under-the-net' titles. That's the purpose of this thread.

Moving to movie forum.

Well, it really is just a "favourite films" list, isn't it?

Consider this thread crapped on.

I'll see if I can fit your definition of cool.

1. Queen Margot
2. Donnie Darko
3. Hard Eight
4. Kundun
5. Magnolia
6. The Ninth Configuration
7. Titus
8. Dancer in the Dark
9. The 4D Man
10. The Last Wave

But these rankings are really for the movies, not the DVDs.

Which is why DonnachaOne wrote what she wrote... this isn't about DVDs.

Just to clarify, and don't worry, I'm not offended:

This thread is specifically about cool movies on DVD so should remain in its original posting place.

As originator of the first DVDTalk Top 100 DVD Polls, which was expanded so ably by LBPound, I feel it in order to reflect something less mainstream.

The end results would have silence the doubters.
