The Assassination of Richard Nixon

From Dark Horizons:

The Assassination of Richard Nixon: The Hollywood Reporter indicates Michael Wincott has joined Sean Penn & Naomi Watts on this indie flick about a man in the1970's who planned to kill President Nixon by hijacking and crashing a plane into the white house.

Of all the things that are getting their release dates held up, I can't believe this one is going through now. I'm not overly sensitive, bit I can't believe people aren't going to balk at this.

There is no law that keeps films held up. It is just the producers who decide to hold back a movie because of content. Guess the producers/director of this movie doesn't care about possibly offending people.

I'm guessing the movie is based on a true event. Never knew about it.

just saw this movie on DVD. I never knew about it either, but I was drawn into it.

I read on the internet that the guy was arrested in 1972 for making threats against President Nixon, but they didn't mention that in the film.

I really loved this film, reminded me of the type of films that were made in the early to mid 70's. The only thing I thought detracted from the film was casting Naomi Watts...she is way too pretty for this role.

Regretably, the region 1 DVD has no extras. I bought the region 2 UK DVD as it has the following extras:

° Director Commentary
° Deleted Scenes With Commentary
° Behind The Scenes Featurette
° Sean Penn Press Conference
° Trailer And TV Spots
° The Real Sam Bicke Profile

Oh MAN! Those are great features! Guess The Real Sam Bicke Profile might have been The History Channel documentary which, in the U.S., is only available on VHS.

R1 gets the short end every time!

Sidenote: the guy's real name was Byck. They changed it in the film in order to not offend living relatives to the would-be assassin.

I wonder if Sam Byck really had an older brother who owned a Tire company. There's no mention of the brother in articles - maybe its mentioned on the R2 edition of the friggin' movie..

I blind bought this movie when it first came out on DVD and loved it. Everytime I think of scenes that display amazing acting, I immediately think of Penn's late-night phone call to Naomi's character.

I think the role of Sam Byck should have been played by the other Penn brother - Christopher Penn, rest in peace - due to how the real Sam Byck looked. He surely didn't look like Sean.

Didn't like this flick at all. Pretty overrated IMO.

If there was one word that I never thought I'd hear used to describe this movie, it's "overrated."

I just seen this the other day,and thought Penn was great as usual, although I didn't care for the film itself. You'll like this film if you also liked Falling Down,Taxi Driver, and The King Of Comedy.

Recently watched this on a netflix rental. Absolutely fantastic acting from Penn. Not much happened with the plot. It kind of dragged for the most part. But Penn's performance makes this file worth seeing.

Great acting, but on the whole, I can't say I liked the movie.
