I wasn't overly bothered by the religious stuff, though it was ham-fisted as hell and if it was going to be a part of the movie, should've actually been handled more gracefully. I was more irritated by the characters, who are supposed to be trained scientists, acting like moronic slasher movie victims.

Apparent from the pointless tag at the end (and even that's fairly tenuously connected), there really isn't much in Prometheus which would impact anything elsewhere in the franchise. It's obviously set in the same world, and the stuff with the Engineers is obviously tied in to the Space Jockeys, at least nominally, but for all of the "It's a prequel to Alien hullabaloo, there's not much of it with a bearing on the (frankly thin as hell anyway) mythology. Though maybe that's just because giant chucks of the movie make no fricking sense at all.

Well, they clearly intended Prometheus to tie in to Alien, with the ship being identical (not the same ship, but the same type), and the images of Xenomorphs in the hieroglyphs and the creature at the end. And we don't know how they might try to tie the second Prometheus (Prometheuses?) in.

I don't think there needs to be a total reboot other than for the studio wanting to disassociate a new film from lesser installments like Alien: Resurrection, AvP, AvP 2, and even Prometheus that they feel hurt the brand.

I hated how Alien 3 ended but it was a quality film considering the direction they took with it. Everything after comes across as fan-fiction, with the exception of Prometheus. The problem with that film was that for being modern SF it was pretty dumb, had characters written like they were in a Friday the 13th movie, and lazy creature designs.

...Actually I guess there needs to be a reboot. They're not going to do Prometheus 2, people aren't clamoring for a sequel to Alien: Resurrection or AvP 3, so they need to do something to revitalize the name.

They are still doing Prometheus 2. The Variety article said it's going to be done separate of Alien 5.

I'm down with the idea of Bloomkamp doing an Alien 5. As long as he doesn't go super fan boy and turn out a pos similar to what happened with Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. Prometheus 2 can just burn in development hell though. What an ok concept with terrible execution.

Why? It's the same shit one already seen throughout tons of Alien movies. Humans shooting down Aliens as they're getting chased. It's a tiring formula.

The only way this new Alien movie from Blomkamp will work is if half human/half alien (like Ripley) soldiers goes against the aliens.

That is why I think he's the perfect director because in District 9 that dude morphed into an alien and it was freaking cool. Blompkamp's alien artwork shows Ripley as an alien soldier. It's the only way to make this movie fun again.

Let it die and pretend only Alien & Aliens exist.

The religion stuff didn't bother me in Prometheus. I meant that it seemed they'd make it have a much bigger part in Prometheus 2. Like is "Paradise" Hell, are the engineers dark angels, etc? Or maybe they're good angels?

The only way to make Prometheus work at all is to explain that the Engineers did not create the Xenomorphs but were rather trying to bring them back into existence (a'la Jurassic Park). It's the only way to explain the painting of the Xenomorph Queen despite the final Xenomorph looking like some weird mutant offshoot of the typical Xenomorph.

I think Alien 3 is good enough to be included with the first two Alien films. It's not perfect but it's a quality film that's a damn sight better than anything that came after.

Wait a minute...

The only way to bring back ALIEN properly is to have Ellen Ripley brought out of a deep freeze and reveal that ALIEN 3 and ALIEN RESURRECTION were just bad dreams. That may piss off some fans, but the number of fans it would please far outweighs the number it would tick off.

Bringing back the clone/Alien hybrid of Ripley is something I have ZERO interest in seeing.

What's funny is that one of the initial plot ideas for Alien Resurrection was to start with Alien 3 being nothing but a hypersleep-induced nightmare, like the one from the beginning of Aliens.

Part 3 is good. Tewt and Twix dying at the beginning was perfect. Only problem is how did it get on board and how could they have possibly been too stupid to scan the ship prior to going into hypersleep.
