sounds cool I dont know how they will work this on in but I do like the idea of the dream sequence for 3 and 4

Joe Schmoe 07-09-03 11:30 PM

I'm all for 3 & 4 being bad dreams. Can anyone think of a sequel that used this ploy before? Someone mentioned "Die Hard 3" ignored 2, but 3 never actually called 2 a dream.

The only example I can think of is actually a TV show, "Dallas," and the dream idea pretty much killed this popular show. Its ratings dipped after Patrick Duffy's character was killed off, so a year later the producers brought him back by explaining his death--and an entire season of shows--never happened because another character had dreamed it. It erased a season's worth of crappy storylines, but it also sealed the show's fate because more viewers quit watching it. I don't think the dream idea for "Alien 5" would go over well at the box office (even though I like the dream idea).

Ripley's asleep in the cryo-chamber and then you find out the events of 3 and 4 were all a dream because her sleep was perpetuated by a lengthened cryogenic stasis caused by none other than the nefarious...MR. FREEZE!!! When she wakes up, freed by Batman, you find out that the Aliens have landed in Gotham, and teamed up with Arnie, but he's out to double cross them.

Then, George Clooney and Sigourney show up just before the aliens incubate in that bumbling sheriff of sorts, Commissioner Gordon, all hell breaks loose and it's a four-way free for all where we see all those crossover battles we've DREAMED of. This movie will make 500 million EASY!!!

Not only would we be subjected to "bat nipples" but probably "alien nipples" as well?

I'm sure the facehuggers & warriors would take one look at the stupid Batman outfit and die laughing. End of movie.

Alien 5: who would be a good choice to direct?

I was chatting with a buddy the other night about the possibility of a fifth Alien movie. We both agreed that the use of different directors (and their particular styles) is a good trend to continue. With that in mind, we also agreed that David Cronenberg would be a primo choice to direct another installment. Considering his oeuvre, need I say more?

Comments and alternatives?

what, resurrection wasn't wacky enough for ya?!?!

i dunno...singer comes to mind.

RyoHazuki 12-11-03 08:13 PM

Tim Burton

David Lynch

FinkPish 12-11-03 08:20 PM

Give Fincher another shot.

stegon66 12-11-03 08:22 PM

Singer? Eh...

Burton? I'd put him in the same quirky neighborhood as Jeunet (I'd include Del Toro in here as well) which could be redundant.

Lynch? Maybe...

Cronenberg still strikes me as an excellent candidate as the concept of the aliens meshes so well with the themes he likes to explore (that of generally icky things happening to the human body). :)

George Romero might be another good choice.

I'd be more concerned with the writer...

Giles 12-11-03 09:32 PM

Takashi Miike :D

<b>GUILLERMO DEL TORO</b> (<i>Cronos, Blade II, Devil's Backbone</i>)

necros 12-12-03 12:42 AM

McG!

Seriously though, I bet Tim Burton could make a pretty f-ed up and cool Alien movie. Johnny Depp can play Ripley's long lost son

onebyone 12-12-03 12:52 AM

Cronenberg and Luc Besson come to mind. I wish Besson would direct more, I miss his stuff.

Ridley Scott, Ridley Scott, and oh...
Spoiler:
Ridley Scott.

Make 5 the concluding film, for real.

Agreed. Scott discussed his ideas for another Alien film in the commentary track on the first release of the DVD and all of his ideas sounded far more interesting than anything I've heard mentioned by "official" sources. And he seemed willing and eager to do it.

Ergyu 12-12-03 02:35 AM

Ridley Scott. I'd like to see it harken back to the more primitive times of the original, when you didn't have to SEE it to be scared. That or just a really great action oriented one, I think Scott could do either.

custom001 12-12-03 03:20 AM

Cameron!

Let him make his 500 million $ movie!

PalmerJoss 12-12-03 07:01 AM

Hasn't the tradition been with each Alien film to give it to an up and coming director? Everyone mentioned has been a good choice, but I'd rather see it given to someone much less known, like Glen Morgan or Michel Gondry.

Geofferson 12-12-03 08:43 AM

I say bring Cameron back in the mix.

QuiGonJosh 12-12-03 10:00 AM

Let Scott end the series!

But then I'll have to buy the 15 disc Alien: Big Ass DVD set...jeez..

sundog 12-12-03 10:06 AM

Guy Maddin

talemyn 12-12-03 10:50 AM

Peter Jackson!!!

Just kidding . . . :D . . . although, I think it would be interesting to see what kind of spin he would put on it . . .
