That's probably the best option. Just leave it to the viewers to decide why those movies didn't happen (it was a dream! time travel! clones in 3/R!), or just let us say those movies are non-canon and leave it at that.

But then you're going to have lots of people freaking out because it wasn't explained...

Meh, reboot the whole thing with one of Will Smith's kids, the brother and sister from Walking Dead:Los Angeles, and some bland talentless-but-pretty 20-somethings from ABC Family Channel. Get Ariana Grande or Maroon5 to do the theme song and hire the director of season 3 episode 12 of Gilmore Girls ... We need to freshen the franchise up. Maybe bring in Scott Gimple to produce.

While we are at it, can we get a giant mechanical spider?

Like I said previously, I hate the idea of pretending like sequels didn't happen. Reminds of Superman Returns. I'm sure for others it will be fine, but personally I don't like just ignoring films that actually did happen and would prefer some type of stupid explanation

I've already decided why, because there's money to be made.

Was that an issue people had with Terminator: Genisys ? If so I'm sure it was way secondary to the casting of Jai Courtney, the frailty of Emilia Clark's Sarah Conner and the terrible spelling of the film's title.

So apparently Scott has taken full control of the Aliens franchise now. I would be happy but he seems to be doing more harm to it than 3,4, and the AvP movies.

As someone who wasn't ga-ga over District 13 or Short Circuit 3, I agree.

Ridley Scott Says Neill Blomkamp's 'Alien' Project Is Dead

"Fox decided that they didn't want to do it, and that was it," says the 'Alien: Covenant' director.

For those waiting patiently for updates on Neill Blomkamp's Alien movie, there's some good news and some bad news. The good news is, an update seems to have arrived. The bad news is, the update seems to be that the pic is dead.

Talking to French outlet Allocine, Alien: Covenant director Ridley Scott quite coldly revealed that the project was likely defunct when asked about its status. "There was never a script," he said. "It was an idea that evolved from, I believe, a 10-page pitch, and I was meant to be part of the producers on that. It didn’t evolve. Fox decided that they didn’t want to do it and that was it. I’d already done Prometheus and I was planning Covenant, so I dunno."

Asked if the movie is ever likely to happen, Scott said, "I don't think so, no."

The potential project originally made its debut on social media in early 2015, before the reaction to concept art posted by Blomkamp led to Fox's involvement. Blomkamp talked often about the project at the time, explaining that it would ignore Alien3 and Alien: Resurrection, and that Scott liked his proposed title. After that initial flurry of activity, however, Blomkamp went silent on the subject, potentially reflecting Fox's own cooling on the matter.

Alien: Covenant, Scott's own latest expansion of the franchise, hits theaters May 19.

I know there's so many folks that hate Ridley's latest and wanted to see this, but i'm on the opposite where I haven't cared for Blomkamp so i'm ok with this.

I don't really care either. I'm actually glad Blomkamp isn't going to make it. It's Ridley's ship, let him crash it if he wants.

Re: Alien 5 (D: Blomkamp) S: Weaver

So ... Ridley felt threatened (by a hack according to many of you) and torpedoed the project of an artist who (seemingly) had a passion for the project. Not that it would take much to show up Prometheus.

Let me ask this ... If Covenant is a flop, what does that mean for the franchise? In an era when studios are banging the franchise drum vehemently, would they give Ridley the boot and let some other visions come to fruition? Would they even care if it is critically trashed but turns a profit?

To be honest, I am not sure I will go see this in theaters. I am a huge fan of the franchise, but Ridley's BS has really put me off.

What little I remember of Blomkamp's idea it sounded kind of interesting, but it came across a little like fan-fiction too. Ripley, Hicks and Newt are alive? Alien 3 never happened?

Weaver is aging well, but she looks her age. I'm not a very loyal fan. I'd rather see Ford hang it up as Indiana Jones, and Weaver leave the Ripley role alone.

If Covenant doesn't do well, hopefully they'll just leave the series alone. We got 3 good movies.

Before Chappie: "Sure, why not? I'm all for it!"

After Chappie: "Keep that fucking hack away from this!!"

Really? I didn't see them die.

Alien 3 & 4 are a long nightmare Ripley had while in cryo...

That would work for me. Having Newt and Hicks die, pointlessly, in between 2 & 3 just makes ALIENS itself pointless. So I've always considered 3 & 4 to be a nightmare that Ripley is having.

I was looking forward to Blomkamp's rendition. What a damn shame.

You sure saw her chest sawed open, didn't ya?

Oh, 10 year old, "I'M NEWT. RUNNING FROM ALIENS, SAVE ME HICKS!", fantasy horseshit.

Pointless for someone wanting to see Hicks telling bedtime stories to Newt.

Seeing Ripley deal with everything being taken from her and giving a final "fuck you" to the company, is better than Hicks playing Daddy.

Door nails!

Resurrection... whatever....

Re: Alien 5 (D: Blomkamp) S: Weaver

What I've always loved about the Alien movies is the near absolute pessimism of the universe they exist in.

One movie ends with forming and saving a nuclear family. The very next movie destroys that family in the opening scene. And at the end of that movie, they kill off the franchise heroine. Also, that movie is set in a prison. And everyone shaves their head because of the lice.

I'm okay without the warm and fuzzy fan service of letting Newt and Hicks survive.
