Maybe the BD release. But as I recall the HD DVD and DVD sets didn't have the theatrical cut.

If they were going to make another Alien sequel this would be a great idea. It won't happen since I doubt FOX is going to put so much money to do a new Alien sequel based not on a new story, but from one installment of the multitude of Alien video games. |
I've heard about that Isolation game, doesn't it feature the original cast doing the voices?

Not the game itself, but the brief preorder DLC does.

Re: Alien 5 (D: Blomkamp) - News, rumors, etc.
It seems Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection will not be retconned.
Movie Morsels: Neill Blomkamp’s ALIEN WON’T Undo ALIEN 3 and ALIEN: RESURRECTION After much speculation that Neill Blomkamp’s Sigourney Weaver-starring fifth movie in the Alien film franchise (discounting Ridley Scott’s prequel Prometheus) would ignore the much-maligned Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection, Blomkamp has come forward to set the record straight. The director tells AlloCine that he won’t be rewriting Alien film history… “I’m not trying to undo Alien 3 or Alien Resurrection,” says Blomkamp. “My favorites are the first two movies. I want to make a film that’s connected to Alien and Aliens. That’s my goal.” Blomkamp’s next film Chappie — also starring Weaver — debuts on March 6th. |
Re: Alien 5 (D: Blomkamp) - News, rumors, etc.
Makes sense to me. I guess that writing in Ripley and Newt would be the toughest parts. Other than that, the possibilities are endless.

Re: Alien 5 (D: Blomkamp) - News, rumors, etc.
Newt will be an obvious recast. However, regardless of the quality of the upcoming flick, it'll be difficult not to see the Sword of Damocles looming over Newt and Hicks while watching the new feature.

so Weaver is going to be that ridiculous clone hybrid thing then? fuck that.

Alien3 fucked the franchise beyond recovery. It was just fucking stupid to kill off Newt, Hicks, and Ripley. For one thing, Weaver was always going to come crawling back for another paycheck. Maybe she thought she wanted out, but face it, she's was a middle aged actress and this was her one gravy train. And even if she did want out, there were still the Newt and Hicks characters to carry on. |
Re: Alien 5 (D: Blomkamp) - News, rumors, etc.
No Winona Ryder, no sale.

Re: Alien 5 (D: Blomkamp) - News, rumors, etc.
I've grown to really like Alien 3.
In a perfect world (my perfect world, anyway) they'd figure out a way to include 3 with this timeline. Since someone already pointed out that Resurrection takes place long after the first three movies, we can conveniently leave it alone and forget it exists altogether. They got the Xmen franchise straightened out more or less, so it'd be nice if they could do the same with Alien and get everything to exist in one continuity. |
Re: Alien 5 (D: Blomkamp) - News, rumors, etc.
So basically, Blomkamp wrote some fanfic and someone at Fox decided it was good enough for another film?

I am vehemently against any known characters - even Ripley, especially Ripley - being the basis for another Alien adventure. That said, if you are wanting to keep a young Newt in the story, here is your girl:

Besides the goofy tone of the movie, I'm flabbergasted they are still dicking around with bullet weapons in space 200 years later. Then there was that goofy dudes head saying that "beautiful baby" crap..which reminds me of the birth. Actually, I'm starting to think "Resurrection" was supposed to be a comedy. |

2. Lookalike robots. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit... |
Re: Alien 5 (D: Blomkamp) - News, rumors, etc.
Have they actually said this movie will take place after Alien Resurrection? It is Alien 5, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is fifth in chronological order. What they have said about the new movie ignoring Alien 3 and 4 but yet at the same time not retconning them makes me think this movie will be Alien 2.5. In other words it will be set between Aliens and Alien 3.

Re: Alien 5 (D: Blomkamp) - News, rumors, etc.
That doesn't make sense cuz Weaver has undoubtedly aged.

Re: Alien 5 (D: Blomkamp) - News, rumors, etc.
Resurrection was in the same tone as all of Jeunet's other movies, which are usually whimsical, occasionally dark, comedy flicks. He wasn't the best pick for Resurrection.
But even with that, I don't think anyone could have made a great movie out of that script. I'm rewatching Perfume: Story of a Murderer right now and for some reason I think Tom Tykwer would be a good fit for an Alien movie. But it could be because his style in the movie reminds me of Fincher a bit. |

ugh, Christ no. We've seen how well that's worked with Jeff Bridges and Patrick Stewart.

Re: Alien 5 (D: Blomkamp) - News, rumors, etc.
Yeah. It, so far, hasn't worked w/ CGI. Or has it? X3 did it and it was ok but it didn't really look real.
