Favorite Evil Dead film
I've seen many people have very varied favorites of the Evil Dead trilogy. In the Video and DVD Movie Guide, ED is 4/5, EDII is 3½/5 and AoD as well. In opinions, it seems that things don't gravitate toward one movie as much such as Empire in the classic SW Trilogy. So what's your favorite of the Evil Dead films?
I bought the 2-pack BODs of 1 and 2, i really just wanted 1 but it was oop and only available in the pack so i thought why not i'll get both. The Evil Dead is my favorite, i greatly enjoyed it as i remembered it after years. The plot was meaty, the atmosphere of the emptiness and not-knowing-what's-around-the-corner toward the 2nd half of the film especially is probably the best done in cinema. II had the least amount of plot of any of the three films, though still fun as always. It has the cool "Groovy" montage and Ash's iconic look and i think these two coupled with the more polished image (budget) is why it's rated highest on imdb. Army of Darkness is the most slapstick with some great humor, but still some creepy moments in there and the medieval locale is cool as well as Ash being uber badass.

Well I would say I like the ED I & II pretty much the same with AOD being half a star down. The reason I give ED I the edge is that it has a very successful Lovecraftian vibe about it. There aren't a lot of horror films that genuinely creep me out but ED I does it every time.
It took me a couple viewings to really get the humor in ED II but now I do find it pretty funny. Most of the time, however, I'm just not in the mood for a horror comedy so ED I probably gets the most plays out of the 3.

AOD just because it turned me on to the series. I agree that the first one is the only one that can legitimately be called a horror movie though. In fact, while I prefer the theatrical edition of AoD, it almost doesn't fit with the series as much as a standalone movie.

Evil Dead II>Army of Darkness>Evil Dead
Thats my opinion tho. and a interesting fact that is also the order of how I like the commentaries.
Evil Dead II is my 2nd favorite commentary, after Shaun of the Dead w/Pegg/Wright.
Anyway,I love the Evil Dead Trilogy.

Second one is definitely my favorite (I seem to like second movies in my favorite series, including EDII, Dawn of the Dead and Mallrats)
After that, I think AoD, then EDI
