Funny Finding Nemo reference in Monster's Inc.

Anyone notice that when Sully is trying to calm Boo down at the end of Monster's Inc. with the toys in her room not only does he hand her the toy of the cowgirl from Toy Story 2 but also a toy that looks exactly like Nemo (or perhaps his dad) from Finding Nemo?

From IMDB:

When Sulley is about to say goodbye to Boo, Boo is trying to get him to play. She hands him a Jessie doll from Toy Story 2 (1999) as well as Nemo The Clownfish from Finding Nemo (2003). The yellow ball with the red star on the floor is the ball from the Pixar animation, _Luxo Jr. (1986)_.

Funny, I never even thought to check if what I noticed may have already been noted in IMDB. Oh well, at least it backs me up.

Interesting... is this the first time a reference to a future movie was used? I know that they always reference a past movie in some way (althought I don't know when this trend began).

No it is not. In Back to the future 2, there is a poster for Jaws 19.

But seriously, it is not the first time. It's been done before. I have once read about other such references in a movie magazine. Here are some of them :

In "Indecent Proposal" released by Paramount, Demi Moore was reading John Grisham's "The Firm" which was the next big Paramount release.

Same thing in Notting Hill where Hugh Grant is reading "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" which was director Roger Michell next project. Sadly, he had a heart attack and was replaced by John Madden on "Corelli" so the reference didn't work that great.

Then, there was this Alien head in the Predator ship at the end of "Predator 2" which was probably a reference to the often announced but never made "Alien vs Predator" movie.

And in "Peggie Sue got married", Nic Cage plays a suitor to Kathleen Turner's Peggy Sue who claims he doesn't know what the future would bring and that he could lose an arm. Nicolas Cage's next role was in Moonstruck where he plays a baker with a single arm.

Those are the ones I can think of.

Nice_Skis - thanks for the list... but I meant to ask if that was the first time a Disney film referenced a future Disney film :-)

nice_skis,

I always thought the Alien skull was a joke by the production design team of Predator 2 that started the whole AvP craze. Did the Dark Horse AvP comics show up before or after Predator 2?

My kids noticed this the very first time we watched Monsters Inc. after seeing Finding Nemo.

I seem to remember some easter eggs in Finding Nemo as well referring to other Pixar films.

I think the best easter egg actually used as a character was in Toy Story 2. Woody is repaired by an old man named Gerald, who was prominently featured in a Pixar short entitled "Gerald's Game" that played the year before in front of A Bug's Life.

I think Monsters Inc was the first Pixar film that referenced a future Pixar film. Toy Story 2 did not have any Monsters Inc references, and while Bug's Life had Woody in an outtake, that is more likely a reference to the first Toy Story film.

Finding Nemo supposidly has references to both the upcoming film The Incredibles(2004), and to Cars(2005).

Is he the guy playing chess by himself or something like that? It sounds familiar, but I'm not really visualizing it.
