That's a shame...
|
Audiences too, no doubt, after the first one.
|
this kinda sucks, I liked the first one and seeing as it was flawed I was hoping they would come back stronger.
|
bana wants more money and i say pay him. connelly could be replaced though. i liked the first one, problably the best cgi i've seen up to return of the king. hope it gets done. it did very good overseas and on dvd so it did make it's money back and alot more.

Fine with me. I loved how the first movie was handled, but a sequel would likely be a dumbed down smash-a-thon.

Re: Studio, actors backing out of "Hulk 2"
Originally posted by Sierra Disc The budget of the first film was near $137 million and the marketing costs were nearly a quarter of that. The end result? apparently somewhere near the $132 million region. In otherwords, a loss. Many involved blame it on the other films on release that week, whilst other said it was merely due to the wrong tactics being used in marketing it (it was more a psychological drama not a superhero film, blah, blah). As far as blame, "other films on release that week". Bah!! It did great the first week. Word of mouth is what killed it. ...and yeah, let's not market Hulk as a superhero movie but rather as a "psychological drama". Who would want to go see that??? Me? I thought the movie sucked and while I would like to see another one made, I want a superhero movie - not a psychological drama... |
The sequel is already set up and there is no need for 45 minutes of deep psychological character development. The smart thing to do is to make this into a super hero action film that starts off in yo' face. I liked the Hulk up until the stupid ending with his father. Hulk was a box office dissapointment but by no means did it tank. International box office almost doubled the North American take and DVD sales were strong.

To blame the failure of The Hulk on anything but word of mouth is ridiculous. Marketing? Other releases? Hello, 60 million dollar opening.
And as said before, the movie was profitable. If they say otherwise, they're probably lying. 240 international barely makes them their money back (they take maybe 50-60% of that) but with ancillary markets you see green. But, I can understand balking at a sequel. Making a sequel to a movie that no one cared for in general ain't that grand of an idea. Tomb Raider 2 should be a great example. |

However, if they cast Buscemi or Duchovny, I would see the sequel because I love them. Buscemi as The Hulk? I love this movie already. |
Word of mouth is what ended up killing the movie.
I saw the midnight showing the Friday of it's release. Once the film went to black and the credits began rolling, a majority of the theater was pissed off they stayed up past 2am to see that piece of crap. I heard many, many negative remarks against the film when I was walking out, and the theater was sold out. I never saw an entire theater pissed off at a single movie ever since I saw Solaris (which I loved and 80% of the theater walked out on before the final 30 minutes) and Scream 3 (which I hated unlike the first two films). Just because it took $60 million it's opening weekend means nothing. Word spread quickly after that opening weekend. Remember, Hulk has one of the biggest second weekend drops for a big mainstream blockbuster film. If they do a sequel, first thing Universal needs to do is fire Ang Lee and Jim Schamus. Don't even let those two near the film. Hire a good writer and director and do an all-out big budget action movie (I agree with cruzness on this). We had a 130 minute character and plot development movie (X-Men was handled much better than Hulk, so let's just go all-out and have Hulk just going crazy and Hulk smashing things for a solid two-hours. Get ILM and make them produce the best visual effects known to man. Make it one of the best action films of all time. Do that, and the film will make money and hopefully take the bad taste of the first film out of people's mouths. But Universal probably won't do this, and if the sequel is released, it'll tank. |
Buschemi as the Hulk? Better be a comedy. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy, but he is not David Banner material.
|
...but a sequel would likely be a dumbed down smash-a-thon. Not "Merchant Ivory's A Gamma-Irradiated Room With A View." |
So what are Universal pouring them money into at the moment - blockbuster wise? There's a couple of things. First, there's a new "Mummy" movie which Brendan Fraser's probably going to come back and do, and then there's a fourth "Indiana Jones" and "Jurassic Park"". must have the inside info! Jason |
While i enjoyed the first one, i think a sequel would tank. No big loss here.
|
It's all sequels - sheesh - hulk, xmen, spiderman, indiana jones, jurassic park...
soon every movie will have a "2" in it. what happened to "original enjoyable movies"? |

Glad to see this news. I hated The Hulk and any sequel will flop harder than the first.
|
Hulk and Daredevil weren't as good as Spiderman or X-Men. Can't say I'm surprised with this bit of news.
Marvel would be well advised to not try and push sequels when the public isn't clamoring for them. |

Shame there won't be a sequal, but from the sounds of things I wouldn't want to see the sequal that they plan to make. I loved the Hulk. It's an intelligent movie for an interested audience. Not a special effects jerk off for ADD infected sheep.

If you liked Hulk, you enjoyed pretensiousness and boring babbling and art where it doesnt belong.
If you didnt like Hulk, you are a stupid teenager who has ADD and watches Micheal Bay movies. |
Hulk was a challenging film, and it looks like most of the audience wasn't up to the challenge.
small loss, i loved it and am happy i have one great film rather than several mediocre ones. Ang and crew have nothing to be ashamed of-except underestimating the need of modern audiences to have bright and shiny things waved in front of their faces for 2 hrs to hold their attention. |

Is it possible to discuss the film and not insult those who disagree with your opinion? |
