Dumb and Dumber- comedy classic or childish?

I am indeed talking about the original and not the prequel.

Most of us here consiter fart and sex jokes to be the lowest of the low when it comes to humor but dumb and dumber is still consitered a classic by most people, and I would say the reason is because its kind of smart as well.

Certainly the movie is childish but it had it's funny moments for me. Not Carrey's best by far.

I think it is Carrey's best by far!! You know something, it has its silly moments (Harry bashing Ms. Samsonite's (Swanson) face in with a snowball), its comic moments (Harry on the toilet after Lloyd gives him 'relief') but also its serious moments (Lloyd telling Harry that he's tired of having no one and of being a no one). But, it also has moments where Lloyd's genius comes through a bit like a turtle's head coming out of from its shell; the problem is that the head gets frightened and quickly ducks back (when Lloyd has Mary Swanson's name correct, but then they decide to check the luggage for her name).

Great, great film.

Somewhere in between comedy classic and childish.

It's kind of funny, but there are funnier "dumb" movies. There are also "dumb comedies" that are a lot worse.

But the better moment was what Harry does with the snowmans eyes and nose

Childish for me. I though it had a couple laugh-out-loud moments, but not as funny as many people make it out to be.

That was good but these are the top 2 moments:

1. Lloyd getting bashed in the back of the knees with Harry's cane while entering the ball. lmao. (plus the suits they're wearing).

2. Harry hitting Mary square in the face, point blank range, with a snowball.

Yeah, it's childish but I don't think I've ever laughed so hard in a movie theatre as when I first saw this.

Classically childish?

I consider it a classic precisely because the humor is so childish. I voted for classic though.

I voted for "I haven't seen it" since I didn't read the thread first and thought it was about "Dumb and Dumberer." I guess that makes me the "dumber" half.

I picked childish because there was no choice for "total crap"

Closer to comedy classic than childish, but not quite classic to me.

Classic: Dr. Strangelove, The Holy Grail, Young Frankenstein, etc...

This film, while semi-funny at times, is a not a comedy "classic". 20 years from now, will anyone care?
