Just saw Hollywood Homicide

Saw this today in a preview. Have to say first that I'm a fan of
Ford and I've liked almost everything he's done. I did like this
movie. I haven't really liked Josh Hartnett in the past but he
didn't bother me too much in this. My hopes weren't real high
as I've heard a lot of bad things about this movie (mostly on this
board). The story is of two Homicide Detectives in Hollywood
trying to make a living in an area where the cost of living is higher
than what they make as cops. So they have other jobs (like a lot
of us working stiffs). This is not a slap your knee funny movie
but a comedy/crime movie. The only gripe I have is they showed
too much in the trailer (like that never happens).

UGH...

Ok it's 3am and I just got home from seeing a REAL movie (Superman: the movie) after seeing HH. I needed something make me positive about film making again.

Was this movie good? No. it was average. There wasn't a damn thing special about it. There wasn't anything new or interesting. What is happening to Harrison Ford? The man used to make some absolutely fantastic movies. He's the reason I got into acting in the first place. Was it Random Hearts bad? No. It just didn't go anywhere. There wasn't anyone to care about. There wasn't the "heart and soul" that Harrison has always chosen film roles because of. The audience laughed at the Viagra joke but that was about it until the interrogation scene. Let's just say that the last 1/3 of the movie is how the rest should have been. The first 2/3 were just drab and ultimately disappointing.

I saw it with a typical NYC audience. It was almost sold out. Mostly women together or with their boyfriends or older women. Not many laughs at all, as I said. I was surprised no one "booed" it when it was over.

Again...i didn't hate the movie...i just WOULD NOT recommend it to anyone. This is coming from a HUGE Harrison Ford fan. I had VERY low expectations. It just was stereotypical with bad "black" dialogue and a weak plot. It's earning bad reviews for a reason. It was a good idea with a not so good execution.
The reviews aren't there for nothing and I bet you this will tank just like K-19.

The problem is K-19 was a very good movie that didn't deserve its fate.

That's exactly what I think everytime I see a commercial for this film. It just looks plain and average. Nothing special about it.

Yeah, I'll see it next week, but I'm just expecting as much as any other summer popcorn movie. I'm not expecting Indy or Jack Ryan quality here to be sure.

It's not even that good. This movie is flat out unfunny, the story of the murder of a rap group "H2o Klik" isn't interesting at all. I hated Hartnett and the real estate/ acting gig side story bits were tedious. I nearly walked out. Actually, I did walk out, the second feature on the sneak was Daddy Day Care which I didn't care for either. Left after 30 minutes of that one. What a waste of a night.

The previews I've seen on television for this movie paint it as a serious cop movie, no indication that it's a comedy.
WTF is Ford doing? Why would he participate in a cheesy cop-buddy-comedy?

Honk!

Come on folks...what made you think this was going to be a Oscar-caliber masterpiece?

Consider the "talent" involved:

Ron "Play it to the Bone" Shelton
Harrison "The Frisco Kid" Ford
Josh "40 Days and 40 Nights" Hartnett

I didn't think "oscar"

I thought "funny"

Up until the interrogation scene, it just was NOT.

Yea, but it's not supposed to be Jim Carrey funny. If you go
expecting Bruce Almighty laughs this isn't it. This is more like
a Beverly Hills Cop type of comedy. (except it doesn't benefit
from an actual comedian as the vehicles star)

I'm not saying it's Oscar caliber either, but I did enjoy it, and I
didn't go expecting Harrison Ford 'Fugitive' type performance,
but I went keeping in mind Frisco Kid, and 6days 7nights. By the
way this wasn't as good as FK, but was better than 6D7N OMHO.

I think the funniest thing about this movie is the marketing ploys....i've seen two different adds for it - each have the same footage with a different song - the 50 cent rap ad and one playing "the Boys are Back in Town" - stolen directly from 48 hours if I remember correctly. They couldn't be more different, but obviously the movie blows and they're doing everything possible to get as many demographics in the first weekend.....

Who said Jim Carrey is funny????

I actually liked 6D7N. It was charming where this one wasn't.

Is everything on the big screen Oscar-caliber down there in the porn capital?

Hollywood Homicide has the worst marketing campaign for a major motion picture in years.

The trailer leaves me with no desire to see the movie.

I want to see the movie, but I have two other movies ahead of HH, Hulk and Bruce Almighty.

I a busy over the next few weeks, so I am not sure when I will be able to fit in movies.

I am tired of people constantly dissing this movie. Everywhere I go, all I hear is people saying how horrible it is. At the water cooler, the guy who did my oil change, a lady on the phone at the grocery store.

IT IS NOT A BAD MOVIE. In fact, I thought it was great! I loved the subplot about selling the house. The mega chicks around Josh Hartnett got me hardnett. Chasing that guy around his grandma's house by the river was cool. Also, where the heck was that, what a cool locaiton. I'd like to live there.

I hope there's a sequel in the works.

Was this anger brewing for three and a half years?

I saw this movie during its theatrical release and hadn't given it a second thought until just now

I think it's nearly impossible to be as cool as Harrison Ford, and I even dug him in SIX DAYS, SEVEN NIGHTS, which most are just as quick to dismiss, but sorry, HOLLYWOOD HOMICIDE was just abominable...

You've been waiting 3 1/2 years to use that line, haven't you?

Hollywood Homicide was a terrible movie overall. The plot, and the dialogue was just ludicrous.
