One not mentioned that I enjoy is Breaker' Morant (Bruce Beresford). I'll echo the recomendations for The Bridge on the River Kwai and Paths of Glory.

Sorry, I can't remain silent any longer...

I felt sick leaving "The Thin Red Line" when I saw it... not because of the content of the movie, but because of the *quality* of the movie. Please, for the love of God, in the name of all that is good and right in this world, don't ever, ever, ever waste your time or money on this disaster.

I never thought I would feel the same way about anything ever again... until I saw "Tears of the Sun"... Please, for the love of God, in the name of all that is good and right in this world, don't ever, ever, ever waste your time or money on this disaster, either.

Stick with Band of Brothers, We Were Soldiers, and/or Saving Private Ryan.

Another vote for FULL METAL JACKET.

You get both bootcamp and the battlefield.

Great acting, great story.

I'm not too sure if this will count as a war movie, but Last of the Mohicans is a great movie taking place during the early 1700's.

Here are some others that are newer but have yet been mentioned: Gallipoli, Casualties of War, and Hamburger Hill.

Based on your enjoyment of "teamwork and heavy arms," I'd easily suggest Starship Troopers as something you would like. I'd classify this as a "war movie", as well as "sci-fi".
