Also, there's a shot in Pulp Fiction that was cut to avoid NC-17 but was clearly in the script. This movie will definately have to be cut when released because of MiramAX. Ok, that was a lame play on words.

Yeah, it reminded me of a MST3k I've seen a few times. Some cheesy horror flick had at the beginning, "if you should happen to die from shock or fright, we will supply a free casket . . . "

Seriously guys, based on the draft script this will be the most violent/graphic major-release movie by an A-list director that I can think of. It's filled with Miike-level violence.

Well let's hope it's filled with Miike-level wit. 'Cause Tarantino-level violence works best in small doses.

I dont know about you, but I havent seen a family friendly movie with a bunch of woman orgasming.
OK, are you being serious or sarcastic? This scene lasted,
what, a whopping 10 seconds. I don't recall seeing any real

Hell, Kelly LeBrock got up and walked across the room
completly naked in "The Woman in Red", showing her
muffin no less, and THAT movie got a PG-13 rating.

Not to mention the porn shop scenes and Amelie's conversation with the man wanting to know if she was shaved or not....and lest we forget the 7.5 richter scale humping in the bathroom.

Yup....if thats not a kids movie I don't know what is...it should have been rated G...

Thank you Daytripper.

The sad thing is I heard that the pregnancy scene in the opening is what earned it the R, not the orgasm scene, which only makes it stupider.

Okay, maybe I worded my original post wrong. However the issue is that a few scenes of rather tame sexuality earn the movie an R rating, but violent movies get PG-13's easily. We are telling our kids that violence is more acceptable than having a baby, and that is sick.

Every other country in the world has Amelie at PG/PG13 territory..

Has there ever been a US release of an unrated Miramax film on DVD? I'm fairly certain that Buena Vista has a policy against releasing anything unrated, which includes their subsidiaries.

Take a look at it yourself. First of all it's a pretty damn good script and soaked with Taratino-esque tidbits. Then watch the trailer, read the online summaries, check out the IMDB listing etc. It all fits.

I can see them making some fairly major changes to the script, but the jist is there.

this also makes me so much more anxious about the film!...although I don't know how much more excited I can get about Kill Bill. I've been so excited for at least a year and a half now....maybe more, whenever I heard about it first. That black and white/oil scene sounds sweet.

I GOT MY JAPANESE KILL BILL MINI-POSTERS/STICKERS IN THE MAIL TODAY!!! THEY ARE REAL TIGHT!

I'm in love with uma!

Oh yeah, let's slap an X-rating on it because of everything
you mentioned (!?)

I've seen worse on "The Man Show" and "So Graham Norton". And that's commercial cable television.

Are the chirashi (mini-posters) available already?? I have to find some of those.

It seems that in the past, the MPAA has been a little more lenient with Miramax/Tarantino films compared to others, so I'm sure Kill Bill will get an R with very minimal cutting. At any rate, I can't wait to see this film (I read half the script but had to stop myself so I wouldn't ruin the whole thing for me. But what I read, I liked! ).

NOPE!...well i hear the Trainspotting dvd is uncut despite the R rating on the box. Yet then again it's a measely 2 seconds. Thus hardly noticeable. Again, proves how retarded the MPAA is. How can 2 freaking seconds change the rating from highest,to one lower?

Oh i know why..sex is bad! since the 2 seconds of course involve a sex scene, that is not that graphic to begin with.

What 'shot' was it?

Also my solution is to get rid of the NC-17 & all 'adult' ratings(no more X or Eberts M idea ect)..just let R be high enough!

Then we will not have to worry about pathetic studio policies,& the MPAA unfair use of slapping on NC-17's to even the tamest material.

Yet if the film is as graphic/violent as it claims to be. I am now dreading it more than looking forward to it. I suspect it may suffer some pretty heavy cutting which will turn the outrageous violence into hot air. Thus ruining the impact of the sequences.

So i will keep my expectations low & check the film out eventually.

Also the fact that it's a Miramax film makes me all the more hesitant about it. Since if it does get the dreaded NC-17 & cut severely. We will not get a Unrated version on dvd. Sure they 'could' license it out to Criterion..but would they? Afterall Tarantino is a 'big' name for them..& they'd want to make as much $$$$ off him as possible. So why bother handing his film over to someone else to make the money & not them?

+ You'd think they'd license out all there Hong Kong & other international stuff to Criterion to get proper uncut/OAR/original language releases!

Yet still they have not bothered

Now some may think the MPAA is lightening up on ratings with what is let through now adays. Yet that could not be further from the truth!

They are still uptight over sex/nudity as usual..which nearly always automatically gets a tame R(when it's 'quaint' suggestive stuff mostly)..& the 'harder' stuff always gets a NC-17(such as god forbid..showing full nudity of a couple making love..gasp!). Of course when they get slapped with a NC-17 & it involves sex. Watch out..& avoid the R rated version as all the 'good' stuff is hacked out.

Basic Instinct is a good example. I have not seen the R rated version(thank god). Yet a friend of mine has..& complained that all the stuff she heard about the film was not in the film(such as the crotch shot in interogation). I then told her about the sequences that are more explicit in the original unrated version. She was blown away & disapointed that she saw the heavily cut version..& kept saying "Wow..all that was not in the R version...no vagina shots or anything!". So i plan to show her the unrated version sometime. Should be fun..& proves again how much the MPAA sucks. Since i think the film deserves a R rating uncut since NC-17 is worthless with how it's handled patheticly by the studios thanks to misconceptions.

Also as for violence. They are still pretty strong on that. Sure bad CGI 'gore' like in Blade 2 gets by with a R. Yet had hey used real FX(which require actual hands on work!) with prothetic FX. I'm sure Blade 2 would have gotten a NC-17. Yet sadly were left with really pathetic looking CGI violence which ruins the sequences.

Speaking of which House of 1000 Corpses used real FX(no ****** CGI)...& got severely cut in order to get into R rated shape!

Again proves just how selective & stupid the MPAA is. Some films get by without a hitch, while others get butchured literally.

As for Amelie & it's R rating/sex issue. What is with you people? You act like it's the end of the world & as if your showing your kids 'pornography' since a film happens to have some lite sexuality in it?

You need to seek help fast & stop living in the closet. Get out int othe real world for a change. You may enjoy it actually!

I mean would you rather let your kids watch Kill Bill(if the violence is as graphic as stated) over Amelie...since sex is bad right & something to be shamed of..yet violence is aok?

What a terrific message to send to kids!

I just find it unbeliveable people are 'that' afraid over sex/nudity,compared to violence which is 'acceptable' in films for some odd reason.

I'm not even talking about highly sexually explicit films here either. Yet even the tamest stuff used tastefully gets people uncomfortable. Titanic being a great example. Plenty of morons wanted the love scene & 'drawing' sequence cut from the film in order for there kids to view it. Meanwhile they have no problems seeing hundreds of people go to there deaths?

What kind of backwards mentality is that?

If i had kids..i'd let them watch the whole film uncut as intended. Since i don't find it 'objectionable' at all.

Speaking of which. I don't think if the nudities done tastefully as if it's nothing much, from someone showering or changing. Could even be a brief couple frames. Most kids won't think anything of it.

In fact a few weeks ago. I watched Friday the 13th part 3 with a couple kids my mom watches. They were 2 & 5 years old. The 5 year old wanted to watch a scary movie..& i had to keep telling him no on the Troma films(which are very inappropriate at his age..maybe when he's a teen,he can see them). So he eventually picks out 'Jason'..& we watch the film. Then his little 2 year old brother wants to hang with us & watch the film. So we all watch the film & have a blast.

Now out of all the R rated horror films anyway in my collection. This film was the most acceptable for them in terms of conent. Since the films not that graphic at all. Much of the violence is quick/left to the imagination. Meanwhile the nudity is less than 5 seconds. Sure their's abit of sexual inuendo in the film, which they did not get. Yet still it was not a big deal to them. They wanted to watch a scary movie & get scared, which they did.

Did they say anything durring the brief fleating moments when you got to see a breast onscreen or the tame sex scene with no nudity? Nope..barely batted a eye. Instead they got caught up in the suspense & were scared shitless & said the film was alot of fun.

There parents do let them watch R rated films though. What kind i don't know.yet mostly the violent action films. Again it's funny that it's always ok to watch violent films, yet as soon as there is a hint of nudity,it's all of a sudden 'bad'(the Swamp Thing dvd issue being a great example).

So at least i know i won't get in trouble for letting them view the film. Afterall it's far tamer than other films in my collection, which i would never let them see until they are much older/mature.
