Another 60% drop..
Man, word of mouth is really giving this flick strong legs!
Weekend 1: $91,774,413
Weekend 2: $36,904,034
Weekend 3: $15,040,000
Joking aside, the movie seemed to bring in more than enough dough ($230m so far), but it's fading FAST.

I wouldn't really say its fading fast. Look at X-men 2.
Weekend 1:$85,558,731
Weekend 2:$40,032,160
Weekend 3:$17,301,287
Weekend 4:$13,237,398
Weekend 5:$5,025,000
For an R-Rated movie - what can you really expect? And unlike the plunge Xmen 2 took this past weekend - I think Reloaded will be able to hold the $15m/weekend pace up for quite a while.
Most of the people who saw it and liked it (myself included) are waiting for the theatres crowd to dwindle before watching it again. With the upcoming IMAX release, I know there is a lot of anticipation.
With movies like Finding Nemo, Bruce Almighty and Italian Job all out - there's a lot to choose from for the viewer. So of course there's going to be a letdown. How many people go to the theatre more than once a weekend?

I agree with most of your points. Each subsequent weekend there were movies coming out people were interested in. However, I'm not so sure it'll be able to hold the pace. I may be eating my words, but I have a feeling this movie is going to have trouble reaching the $300 mark.

Reloaded is on course to get to around $275 million, give or take $5 million. It's going to break the record for R-rated film (Beverly Hills Cop II took in around $234 million to set the previous record).

Retired
I predicted just under $300 million for Reloaded, looks like that's what it's on pace for.
The R-rating is bound to hurt repeat business as parents are unlikely to take their kids to see it multiple times, where as with something like spider-man the kids can gt in by themselves and see it several times.

I just saw it again last night for the 4th time and I'm going at least twice to see it in IMAX.
You forgot HULK.
Italian job doesn't look like it's gonna put up much competition to me...

There were only a few scenes that made this movie R. They shouldve went for a PG rating as it would ve grossed alot more. The only scene that pushed it to the R rating was the Neo Trinity sex scene which couldve been left out or left to the imagination. What other scenes do u feel was worthy of the R rating?

I, for one, am happy the Wachowskis didnt go for the Pearl Harbor-esque PG-13 rating, just to try to make a few more bucks.

And the fight on the staircase.
Plus a tiny bit of nudity and profanity.

This must have been in the original Matrix special forum, so I guess the movie title wasn't needed .... but it can be a bit confusing now.
For the first few posts, I was sure this was about From Justin To Kelly ....

Think about it, a high majority of the people into this movie are the exact same people that know where to and will get the bootleg. I would agree that in the end it's probably still not a huge factor, as I doubt many people are like "Why go to see the movie in a huge theater with a proper sound system, etc etc when I can watch it on my 15" monitor with my cute little desktop speakers!".. but if there was a margin, TMR would be affected more than other movies.

Odd, I recieved my copy of the bootleg the very same night it was released and that didn't stop me from seeingit twice and planning to see it at the IMAX.. So I guess we agree on that one factor that it might have been not the biggest thing, but some factor. I still wouldn't consider it any more of a factor then any other film. Spider Man was released almost a week before it hit theaters, The Hulk's workprint was released two weeks before. Signs was released three weeks before. from those we have the biggest opening, spiderman, the one with a HUUUUGE drop, Hulk and a scary film that people went in droves to watch. I really think the bootlegging factor has very little to do with it.
