Yup, that's right. They are making a movie based on Avril Levine's song Sk8er Boi.
Check it out.

Who is the creatively bankrupt producer or studio exec who heard this on the radio and thought "Wow, that'd make a great movie!" A few thousand scripts probably land on their door each day, and THIS is what they choose to finance!
Here's more, from http://movies.yahoo.com/news/fs/2003...432374200.html :
"The song is about a teenage girl who rejects a skater boy with a crush on her because her friends didn't approve of him -- even though she secretly likes him. Years later, he becomes a famous rock star, and she is left with regrets."
and then...
"Paramount says the feature will focus on the two teens from different backgrounds and their social constraints."
So what exactly does one have to do with the other?
"A new event album will be created for the film by Scott Spock, Lauren Christy and Graham Edwards -- the writing-production team known as the Matrix who co-wrote with Lavigne and produced "Sk8er Boi," among other hits, on Lavigne's album Let Go. They will also be consultants on the screenplay. "
Oh good God... seriously, they can write catchy songs with silly lyrics. How are they going to 'consult' on this?
Screenwriter: What do you think about this scene... do the character's actions seem consistent with the motivations that have been established for her?
Songwriter 1: Needs more bass.
Songwriter 2: I'd crank up the guitar a bit more here. And the lyrics need some serious work.
Screenwriter: Ummm, that's dialogue.
Songwriter 1: Whatever, it doesn't even rhyme.
Screenwriter: Dear God, why did I pass on that live action Smurfs movie project...

Anyway, I think the song's subject matter could very well be made into a good movie with a decent message, now if they do it right is the challenge. It'll probably fall victim to over-marketing and the movie will be lost in that.
