I'm fairly certain that that is not what they're trying to do here (show equal numbers of all races, that is). I remember reading about the casting and set report from that scene which said that they intentionally hired predominently black actors. And looking at the scene, I would have to agree with them. I've heard the "minorities are less content in the Matrix world" hypothesis a long time ago (in fact, all this time I thought it was something the W Bros had actually stated) and I think that's a pretty clever idea if true. Just shows how much thought they put into the movie...

The reason that most of the people in Zion are Black or Latino is because they were the first to notice that the first Matrix was not real. Thus the majority of the resistance is of darker skinned people. Hell most Blacks and Latinos well tell you "The world you live in is just a sugar-coated topping. There is another world beneath it. The real world."

So what makes you a good canidate to suspect there is something beyond the Matrix, while you are still plugged into it? Is it your nature or the type of lifestyle the Matrix puts you in?

Example: In M1, when the agents first got Neo's name, what if the Matrix was quickly chaged to give Neo a different life, i.e. his own software empire, or whatever he would find more exciting, pleasing, or fufilling? Would he forget about his quest for Morph and his distake for the real-world?

yup, and I have a feeling that at least over time a larger portion of Zion's population are natually born than Matrix escapees
