The Merovingian Kings

I found it interesting that there were only 5 generations of Merovingian Kings- just like there were
Spoiler:
5 Matrices before Neo.

I think the Merovignian isn't a reference to the Kings or to the Generations of Kings, but to the 'origins' (decended from Mary and Joseph, Gnostic ties, Templars, etc.).

I agree, but I just thought that the number of generations of Merovingian kings was interesting.

It is widely speculated that they originally desended from the ancient Spartans, and made ther way to Palestine eventually to the south of France.

Whoops!

I meant from Jesus and Magdalene!

And there's the legend that they descended from the Nephilim and the Titans as well.

merovignian kings,

it could be that if the theory of the Da Vinci Code is true that the reason for the only five generations is the opposition to their line by Church actions and that they went underground as in Da Vinci Code Story, and are under attack by Church whenever they are revealed.

also, the name, Merovignian may have a clue as to where their origin is, Mer is similar to the root for mother, Mere as in GrandMere or grandmother, and Vignian may mean vine, or of the Vine, this is a Term used In reference to Jesus as he was the True Vine, and his Father is the Husbandman, what do you guys think, eh, tresc77

Interesting. When Matrix Reloaded first came out, I had a theory that The Merovingian was one of the chosen ones from an earlier form of The Matrix, and that the Oracle had lead him astray thinking he would save everything, and that was why he hated her so much.

I guess that depends on what you're considering to be a generation. From Clovis I to Theodoric IV, there's 10 people.

Phew! I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought he was losing his mind.

I look forward to the movie, although the promo picture leaves a lot to be desired.

I always thought the Merovengian was the first Neo. There was a ton of talk about it way back when.

- He keeps around goons from the first iteration of the Matrix
- His woman is all about the "kiss," the first Trinity(?)

There were more reasons to believe this but I'm drawing a blank now.

i believe fincher fan is making light of the OP's title. i thought "The Merovingian Kings" was a sequel to underworld or something. turns out, it was all about a selectively read family tree in light of the matrix.

and i'll agree with others, i'm not sure what defines a generation, but that family tree is ten deep, not five.

That bloodline has one hell of a set of genes! Only five generations in a two-hundred-plus year span!

I always thought the name was chosen just because it sounded cool.

More than likely you're right.
