Merovingian, where his name comes from.
I've seen several posts discussing the source of Merovingian's name, most just mention the lineage of French Kings. While that is not an inaccurate statement, there is much more depth that I seems to be very pertinent to interpreting 'The Matrix'.
1. The Merovingians claimed to be descendants of a union between Jesus and Mary Magdalene.
2. The Merovingian Order of Holy Grail, the Merovingian Gnostic Church and the Templar Knights (related entities) held some interesting religious beliefs:
* Deny the crucifixion
* Believe God had a wife (the Architect and the Oracle)
* Believe in reincarnation (Matrix being reloaded)
* Believe in prophesy and Divine Dispensation
* Believe in a Sacred and Divine Bloodline, manifest through Joseph and Mary, of which the Merovingians are descendants
* Holds that "only the Holy Order of the Grail holds any legitimate Keys to the Quest" for the Holy Grail. One can only begin the Journey of the Royal Quest when they have been given the Keys to the Quest (the One, the Key Maker, etc.)
* Believe in Angels
* Believe there is a war between Good and Evil
* the evil forces can only be fought through special chosen individuals who are pure and innocent and only one above all can remove the Curse of the Grail family and restore the Wasteland [they actually hold these chosen must be female...] (Those freed from the Matrix)
* Believe in Divine Mathematics which can mathematically prove the existence of their doctrine (The Matrix is entirely based on mathematics)
* Their creation theory holds that when the Sacred Father and Divine Mother had children the Sacred Father created the Celestial Realm, a perfect place where they could exist, but soon their children became discontent with the perfection. So the Sacred Father held a meeting with the Divine Mother and their children and decided to create a world were chaos, order and imperfection could be experienced. Each of the children (Gods and Goddesses) were given a specific Divine Dispensation (virtue or purpose in their doctrine). (The first Matrix, the programs each with specific purposes, etc.)
* The path of the Holy Grail takes one through 3 Physical Degrees, 5 Spiritual Degrees and 5 Royal Degrees. (Trinity, 101 in binary = 5, 5 previous Matrix's)
Their doctrine continues on with many other aspects that bear eerie familiarity to the Matrix...

BELIEFS AND CREED
of the
Merovingian Gnostic Church
1- We believe in a Sacred God and a Divine Goddess, who represent Order and Chaos.
2- We believe that once we were Gods and Goddesses in the Celestial Realm and that we were here created perfect, infinite and immortal.
3- We believe that we were recreated upon Earth (the Terrestrial Realm) in order to experience being imperfect, finite and mortal, that we could learn Balance.
4- We believe that we will be reincarnated many times that we can learn and become illuminated in the Knowledge and Wisdom of the Holy Grail.
5- We believe that people have the choice to either serve Michael by Questing for the Holy Grail and to protect and guard it. Or, serve Lucifer and hide it. And we have free will in this choice.
6- We believe that the Quest for the Holy Grail is the purpose of life.
7- We believe that Jeshua the Teacher was not crucified, but had to LIVE for us, that there could be a Sacred Bloodline and High Priesthood.
8- We believe that the Quest for the Sacred Princess is the highest honor one can accept. And in finding her, the Wasteland will be restored and the Luciferian Rebellion overthrown.
9- We believe that America is the Chosen Land, and her pioneers and their descendants are the Chosen Peoples, and that American English is the Chosen Language.
10- We believe in Divine Dispensation through the Spiritual and Royal Degrees.
11- We believe in the Royal Marriage where a man and a woman are Sealed for all time and eternity. We do not believe in divorce or separation in the Royal Marriage.
12- We believe that True Balance is Order and Chaos, within the individual.
13- We believe that all Priestesses, High Priestesses and Princesses must be of €Water€ only and NOT Fire. And thus they should not have any fiery (aggressive) traits nor should they take €smoke and fire into their lungs2 (as is the requirement stated in the Pistis Sophia and Book of the Holy Grail), and we translate this as smoking and aggressive attitude. And she who does take fire and smoke into her lungs is NOT of the Grail.
14- We believe in the fight between Good and Evil, and we reject the ways of Lucifer, Lilith the hairy night fiend, and the Triple Headed Hecate.
15- We believe that all Priestesses, High Priestesses and Princesses must be opposite to both Lilith and Hecate.
