It'll be fixed in the next release of the second trilogy when some Trade federation infiltrator will catch R2 spying on him during a secret meeting with his commanding officer. Here is a part of the script I was able to steal :

INT - SECRET MEETING ROOM - DAY

Infiltrator : Oh no! I've been followed.

commanding officer :"This astromech droid knows too much, remove its speech unit."

Infiltrator : (slyly) "Come here you beeping tom!"

R2D2 : "Oh no! I'm trapped."

commanding officer : "Ah! Ah!"
