Just saw Equilibrium....WOW

I got this on a blind buy and let me tell you, I haven't seen a more intelligent and smart movie in a long time. This movie had a great blend of all the elements. Dimension WAY under-promoted this movie. I would wholeheartedly recommend this as a blind buy. This was a movie unto itself and should not be compared to the matrix all the time. I just had to post and see what everyone else thinks of this great movie. (GunKata was awesome). All info IMHO.

Thanks for the intelligent drivel that just oozed from your post. At least he gave some reasons for his thoughts.

SCHMEGGA: your more than welcome.
if someone want's to take the point that this is a great blind purchase. Then i have every right to knock it down to what it is.

What really made this an unbearable movie to sit through was the music. Always trying to please the teeny bopper crowd with the big pumped up LOUD music that does nothing to serve the movie. It's getting tiresome.

haha, Piazza, thanks for the thread-crap.

All that insight from a guy that has Independence Day and Mission Impossible 2 in his DVD collection.

I haven't seen the movie, but I think I'll trust his views over yours, because he put some thought into them...you were just trying to be an ass.

Decent flick sure.. great flick I disagree. All it did was take from all the movies of the genre before (Gattaca, Farenheight 451, a little bit of Logan's Run, etc) added a little HK style action/gunplay (some good some downright silly) and a body count. Personally I'm giving it 3 out of 5 stars on Netflix but I will add it to my "buy it when it's cheap enough" list

nemein: since you mentioned Fahrenheit 451 i can't wait to see how the new version directed by Frank Darabont turns out. it's supposed to come out in 2004.

Agree completely. I don’t understand the praise heaped on this movie. The story was a trite hodgepodge of borrowed elements, the acting wooden, and the dialogue lame. While stylish, I didn’t find the action sequences sufficiently adept to overcome the weaknesses.

Thanks everyone for backing me up. I personally thought the movie was well done with a well thought out story and after I saw it, I wanted share that with my fellow DVDtalkers. Also, Piazza, you are entitled to your opinion, but if you want to start your own "thread crap" session there are two buttons (one at the top, and one at the bottom) of the main posting page that say . My suggestion would be to start your own thread on how bad it was if that's how you feel.

gunkata - the "martial" art based on the philosophy of waving your hands around pulling the trigger at random to eventually kill all your opponents who are obligingly standing around waiting to be shot Seriously I don't think I've ever seen a movie with as many people just standing around waiting for the squibs to go off so they can fall down.

Nah, no need for another Equilibrium thread...but some insight as to why he didn't like it would have helped. audrey made his/her points of why he/she didn't like it, which is fine.

AOD: if all you want is positive reviews why not list your thread as only for people who like the movie

I personally loved the movie. And listening to Kurt Wimmer's commentary made me appreciate it even more, especially Gun-Kata. Like he says on the commentary, gun play has become rather stale in movies. After America saw how cool it was to hold 2 guns instead of 1 (thank you John Woo) it became quickly adapted. Aside from the variation of holding the gun sideways, i'm glad Wimmer has tried to give it a twist and implement it with a martial arts spin.

I think your opinion of the film depends on whether you buy into the world. If you don't, you're going to sit there and feel the movie is incredibly slow and boring. If the introduction catches your attention, you'll be in for a fun ride.

Personally, i felt the action was incredible. With no other DVD have i rewatched the action scenes as many as i have here. Mind you, this movie is NOT the all out action fest that some are hyping it to be. But what you do get is near breathtaking, and made me think "woah what just happened there." As for the story... i was caught up in it rather quickly. Bale sells his role perfectly, and there are some interesting twists that surprised me.

Anyway, i really think that those who disliked it didn't buy the story, and when they looked to the action to save the movie they begin nitpicking on things. The worst argument for disliking an action movie is saying "why does he never get hit"

Like I said, you are entitled to your opinion, but your first post came off like a thread crap. Nothing personal against you or anyone else who did not enjoy the movie. Yes, I was hopefully looking for intelligent insight into what other members thought of the movie (good or bad); not, for example, "dude, that sucked" (not saying that is exactly what you stated). Again, like I said, I personally liked the movie, it does not mean I don't want other points of view.

What "teen bopper crowd" listens to film score music? Did you see the same movie?

While I thought was a really good movie, I don't think it was groundbreaking or extremely thought provoking. Just a great action/sci fi flick. Yeah it had some borrowed elements from other pieces of scifi. Matrix borrowed elements too. I recommend this flick because it's an entertaining film and it's better than 80% of the crap that gets released every year.

A comment about the music... while the action scenes came with the requisite heart thumping music, the rest of the film is littered with a great score. I felt there was quite an elegence about it that fit the film perfectly. A classical track from Beethoven didn't hurt either

How can you say the acting is wooden? They were suppose to have no feelings,if they had any they will be killed. So far I think everyone acted as they should be.Liked the stylish movie.

Liked the movie and I bought it as a blind buy.

I think the Director intended the main actors to not show emotion during the majority of the movie or did I miss a major plot point

I really want to buy this movie, I haven't seen it yet but I will give it a blind buy as well. It looks like a good flick.

That’s only true for parts of the story. I guess what I’m saying is the performances were not convincing to me.

BTW: I don’t expect a story to be entirely original---there are very few original plots. However the story was trite and poorly told. Unlike say Fahrenheit 451 or 1984 which explore similar themes and illustrate the logical consequences of the dystopian regime on a personal and individual level, here the premise exists solely as a backdrop for the action sequences. The movie just never engaged me on either a cerebral or emotional level. I found it boring. And for an action movie, that’s the kiss of death.
