What's the buzz on Confidence?

This is a movie that is coming out on April 25th, kind of the last gasp of air weekend for lower profile movies before the summer blockbusters take the stomping ground the next weekend with X-2.

It has Ed Burns and Dustin Hoffman and is getting a so-so reaction at IMDB. However, what struck in the previews as maybe getting me into the theater was Rachel Weisz. She looks really effing hot in this movie!

Here are some pics or links, if they work,

the thing that got me, even remotely wanting to see this is the fact that the commercial music was a great song

I actually saw this trailer and thought, "Oh my Lord, how did they manage to uglify RACHEL WEISCZ?"

Looks stylish, and I like the actors involved, but the derivative trailer doesn't make me want to see it - "see this film! We use phrases like 'grift', 'cut', and 'working an angle'"!

Could be good, but it could also be another shameless Pulp Fiction rip-off.

As long as Rachel is in it, I'm there.

However, it seems like lately Hollywood is all about ensemble cast heist pics nowadays; starting with Ocean's 11, then after seeing this trailer, I saw the trailer for Italian Job...while they all offer different takes on heists, I hope this doesn't turn out to be a trend where you end up going "oh, another one of these..."

The journalists at the press junket I attended not too long ago for Basic all seemed to like Confidence.

Take that for what you will.

I was excited about this when I heard it was a con film starring dustin hoffman from the director of glengarry glen ross.

Then I realized it also starred edward burns.

Oy. There goes my confidence.

It's got 100% on rotten tomatoes right now - well, that's only out of 11 reviews - but still...

It looks good:

"Seemingly inspired by Pulp Fiction, The Sting and anything presented by the word processor of David Mamet...yet still the flick entertains in its own right. And wait till you see this CAST!"
-- Scott Weinberg, EFILMCRITIC.COM

"The overcooked plot may sometimes burn you out, but the absolutely superb cast makes the movie. The film is so much fun that you won't mind how dizzy all of the twists make you."
-- Steve Rhodes, STEVE RHODES' INTERNET REVIEWS

"Even if a good heist/grift movie struggles in places, a good payoff will still make it work and that is definitely the case here."
-- Don R. Lewis, FILM THREAT

"A final twist that will knock your socks off with sharp dialogue and a breakneck pace throughout."
-- Harvey S. Karten, COMPUSERVE

"It's all up for grabs in this stylish, Tarantinoey zing-fest, and overall, it's a fun product."
-- Criminy Pete, CRIMINYPETE.COM

"All of the elements for an entertaining caper -- a clever script, enjoyable performances, atmospheric cinematography -- are in place."
-- Annlee Ellingson, BOXOFFICE MAGAZINE

"Oh, this is a good film. Fun curious dialogue rolls across the tongues of rich likable characters to create a strong thumping pace that never lulls."
-- Ross Anthony, HOLLYWOOD REPORT CARD

"Doug Jung supplies a slick and clever screenplay that maps out all the moves like a chess master teaching a class, while veteran director James Foley casts the movie oh so sweetly."
-- Kirk Honeycutt, HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

"A stylish, compelling crime caper full of smoothly navigated plot twists."
-- David Rooney, VARIETY

The plot is almost secondary to me because Rachel Weisz is in it. You could turn off the sound and I'd still be happy. She is simply stunning, and I'd watch her in any movie.
