Oh my GOD! Reality TV comes to the big screen

Sorry if there's already a thread about this. I couldn't find one. But I just saw a commercial that looked like "The Real World" meets "MTV's Spring Break". And thought for sure it had to be a movie on the WB. Nope, the tagline was something like "Where reality TV ends... blah blah blah". It's called "The Real Cancun". The tag line should read "When Hollywood ideas OFFICIALLY ends". I mean, I know tinsletown churns out mostly crap. But this is an all-time low. Unbelievable.

Oh god. Please keep the reality shows to the small screen. I can't imagen the waste of film that they are doing these.

I cannot believe MTV is really producing this crap. Why couldn't they save this for some MTV special on TV where we theatres don't have to waste screen time on this?

Identity will blow this out of the water. I've seen Identity, and it kicks all types of ass. This film was sink.

Haven't they beat this horse to death yet?
Although I had the same thought when I saw the commercial for Looking for Papi, or whatever it's called...I thought it was a satire, because that 'plotline' and those jokes were old and derivative when Three's Company was new...
But is this really a surprise, unfortunately, given the success of "reality" shows on TV, and stuff like Jackass the movie? If they make millions off a tv show just from the advertisers, think how much they might make off a 7-10 dollar movie ticket. Of course, anyone who pays that to see it should be lobotomized--I mean, more than they already are.
And to think I never saw Spirited Away or Amelie even playing in a theater near me. But they have 10 screens with crap like this...Whoops, I lied, now that Spirited Away won an Oscar, they've given it two showings at my theater. But it's too late, if I want it, I'll just buy it on DVD for the same cost as the movie tix. At that same theater, The Core, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and What a Girl Wants each have 4 showings daily.

A movie in a week and heavily marketed, we're seeing the future of movie-making.

I bet we will see many more of these films in the next few years. It cost next to nothing to make, the production was extremely short, and it will probably make at least 10-20 Million at the box office.

Well yeah. That's why this is so sad. There is no end in sight to this garbage. Small or large screen. You can thank MTV for all of this ("The Real World"). Alright, so it's not really their fault. I know it's a business and whatever makes them money. But I still hate them. BTW, when was the last time YOU saw a music video on that channel? Me?? Circa 1993.

You really think? Apparently THAT did so well, a sequel is in the works.

BTW I think this Kelly/Justin movie is a romance MOVIE with characters named Justin and Kelly and not an American Idol movie.

Since everyones saying that this will suck and that they will hate it, I'm going to say that this movie will be awesome and that everyone will see it and like it. Now if everyone here DOES like it, I can say that I called it.

If this "Real Cancun" movie even does remotely well, studios will jump all over it. Think about it for a second. It can't cost them more than a million to make, TOPS. If that thing makes even $10 million, thats 10x the cost. If i make a movie that costs $50 mill, that means it'd have to make $500 mill to make the same amount of money. Who wouldn't take a 1000% return on their money?

It'll never end until the idiots stop going to see it.

You mean if it does well.

Sadly though, this is probably profitable. I mean it can't cost all that much money. Saw the trailer before Phone Booth. Thought I was watching Girls Gone Wild: Bigger, Longer and Uncut
