How in the hell did All in the President's Men get a PG???
I mean I heard the F word like maybe 10 or 11 times and I always thought there was a limit to like maybe 3 at maximum by the mpaa standards.

Probably because it came out before the PG-13 rating was established.
But if you look on the IMDB, you get this:
USA:PG (re-rating on appeal) / USA:R
So apparently the MPAA is trying to get the rating changed to an R, or so it would look that way.

I haven't done any kind of F-word count, but it's likely that the MPAA let it slide because
1) It was before there was a PG-13 rating
2) The subject matter of the film is "serious" and ostensibly historically accurate.
3) The F-words in question were likely not used in a sexual manner.
Way back in the day, it wasn't uncommon for serious works to have their ratings downgraded. I seem to recall reading that "Midnight Cowboy" and "A Clockwork Orange" were both originally rated "X" and then later re-rated as "R."
Apropos of nothing, the MPAA never copyrighted or trademarked the "X" rating, as it was reserved for films of strong subject matter that the MPAA would not rate as "R." It soon become so closely associated with pornography that its use was soon dropped for mainstream films. During the 70s, the marketing of mainstream and pornography were a lot closer than they are now, with things like "Deep Throat" (another "All the President's Men" connection!) and "Debbie Does Dallas" were on the marquees of movie theaters.

interesting point. Should F**k be judged depending on its context? Isn't is worse to use the word as a verb for the sexual act than it is to use it as an adjective or exclamitive.

What other PG-13 films have titties??

Anyway, as for All in the President's Men
, I always use this as an example whenever someone who doesn't know about the PG-13 implementation in the 80s asks about ratings. I seem to recall about 20+ F words, which would never get below an R nowadays. Not only was every film that would now get a PG-13 rated PG back then, but a lot of would be R rated flicks were as well. Personally, I think they should at least drop the stigma that more than one or two instances of the F word seems to bring nowadays (especially if they aren't used in that context, but I know I'm not alone on the issue.

Two that I can remember from that thread (I have lousy memory) is Titanic and Jaws. Titanic is PG-13 while Jaws is PG.

and bump it up
Unless you pause it and turn up the brightness, you won't see anything in Jaws. (right before the shark pulls her under, there is a point of view shot of the shark and thats where you look for them.)

Maybe if you want to see BUSH, but we're talkin' about BOOBS. You can see her boobs before she gets in the water as she's running. They're so Goddamn big that you can see them even when her back is turned away from cammera
