Episode I: Padme's double

When is the Queen/Padme played by Portman and when is it Keira Knightly?

I think that Natalie Portman plays the queen in the beginning of the movie, when she's in the palace. And then she slips into the role of Padme, the Handmaiden, when they leave Naboo with the Jedis, and remains disguised as Padme until she reveals herself to Boss Nass. It's then Natalie Portman who leads the raid on the royal palace at the end of the movie.

Frankly, I thought it was kind of a lame plot device, myself. What's the point in having a decoy if the real deal is always going to be three steps in front of the real deal and traveling on the same ship?

Thanks,

Untill I found out about this I thought they used split screen to double portman w/ herself, like Parent Trap or Dead Ringers. I thought she played both parts.

I think the reason for the double is that the fake queen is the target. She'll get killed, or she'll be tortured instead of the real queen, if they get captured

I swear, before I knew Keira Knightley was Portman's double in Episode 1, I was watching Bend it Like Beckham and kept saying, damn, she looks just like a taller Natalie Portman. When I looked it up on IMDB i was certainly surprised.

It's also Portman when she talks with Palpatine in his office, tells Anakin she sent Padme on an errand, and when she addresses the senate. Actually It's Portman pretty much the whole time on Coruscant.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about the scenes on Coruscant. It's been a while since I've watched the movie all the way through.

Good lord, she's hot and she just turned 20. You can see "more" of her in The Hole with Thora Birch.

Um, I'd have to say Natalie is prettier. She has a prettier face. But both are hot. Since I've never seen Keira's body, I can't judge on who's better. Natalie is tiny, and from what I've seen of Keira, she's skinny.

Keira is a taller, more athlethic version of Natalie Portman. I thought she was terrific in "Bend It Like Beckham". With her hair short and blonde, she also reminds me of a young, but taller Winona Ryder as well. She's quite beautiful with a radiant smile.

Here's a shot of Keira that is reminiscent of Natalie Portman:

This one is sorta large...

and this one as well.

This one makes her look more like Winona Ryder.

And this is a bit stern:.

Adaptation didn't use split-screen... Keira Knightly played Nic Cage's body double in that one too!

But the real question is whether she played Charlie or Donald in Adaptation.
