Peter Jackson officially directing King Kong remake

While Godzilla was lackluster, it was made by people who were bound and determined to remake the creature as they wanted. PJ has more respect for King Kong than LOTR, and LOTR had a great deal of devotion to getting it right. This is what PJ has always wanted to do, I doubt he will go in there with the intent to screw it up.

I don't think it sounds interesting - even if PJ is directing. I am sure it will be decent (WETA will be fantastic), but the story never had me that excited in the first place.

I'm another person that isn't interested in this at all. I've always felt the acclaim Peter Jackson recieved/recieving for LOTR has been overstated and a new King Kong flick doesn't sound enticing at all.

I would reserve judgment until you see the result. The original is a classic, but that does not mean something good cannot be done with it today.
Some remakes, such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, are an out-and-out bad idea because they are of a specific time, place and mindset that cannot be replicated.
Others, such as this one and Solaris (although that one is called hardly a remake at all by some people) have potential because they're simply great stories that can be given a new variation.

Problem is, a lot of people seem to have made up their mind already on this and will not even see it to give judgment.
However, people had a lot of negative buzz about LOTR when its preview first hit, and you see how that resulted.

I don't know what you're all talking about, I have high hopes for this movie...
Don't know if anyone else noticed, but PJ mentioned making "Kong 3" as well in the production diaries on kongisking. He was talking as if it's a done deal. Obviously the first one came out pretty well...
Didn't see them mentioned here, but few other points about Kong 2 (Son of Kong):
- The second movie will take place during the WW2
- The original cast has all been reassembled for the second movie
- The climax will take place in Europe with son of kong fighting genetically engineered beasts created by the Nazis.

That's pretty impressive that they got the entire crew and cast involved. They even had some fake animatics drawn up and some fake sculptures...

That was a VERY good set up. Going into it knowing the sequels were a joke, I found it hilarious as the approach they were taking seems exactly like one the a studio would take if it were up to them. Machine guns on Kong Jr.'s shoulders!
Kudos to the crew for making some impressive pre-production concept art and going as far as to give the movies titles and release dates!
