The Core

Is anyone planning to see this? To me it looks kinda like an underground Armageddon (and for the record, I liked Armageddon ). The trailer doesn't look too bad and the movie has some good names attached to it, but the commercials I've been seeing look pretty dumb.

So is it a see it at the theater, wait for the DVD, wait for HBO?

If you like seeing certain monuments getting destroyed, then I'd go see it.

If this movie grosses more than 20 million domestically it'll be the end of the world as we know it. Truly, truly HORRIBLE trailer, how anyone could actually want to watch it after seeing the previews is mind boggling.

I'm a sucker for any movie that references star trek and hot pockets in the same sentence. I haven't decided if I'll see it yet, I think I'll wait for the reviews before forking over my $6.

It looks like a direct-to-video movie that accidently got a theatrical release.

This movie looks so completely moronic. How exactly did this doomsday device get to the center of the Earth anyhow, and how can these people go to the center when the core is somewhere around 700000 C?

I'm not expecting Shakespeare, but if it has a fast pace and lots of **** blows up, I'm sure I'll be entertained. I am going to see this one, regardless of critics or how dumb the ads look, I'm sure it'll be a nice distraction...

But then, so is do-it-yourself castration.

Actual estimate is 4500 Celsius. I think you would still need some serious sunblock at even this cooler temperature.

"The only way out, is in!"

For the record: I liked Armageddon.

Also for the record: I hated Deep Impact, Volcano, Dante's Peak, and any other movie dealing with the end of the world as we know it. And I feel fine.

at that review.

I might have considered seeing it had everyone involved been tongue in cheek and not chosen to get serious.

I'll be checking it out.

I'm drawn to disaster movies, and we don't really see them all that often anymore. It could be the ultimate escapist fun.

The true genius of the disaster movie....even if the story and character leave you lacking, you still get the satisfaction of seeing stuff destroyed.

taking the wife and kids to see it this weekend (matinee price, of course) It's not doing all that bad over on rottentomatoes.com at the moment - 15 fresh reviews, 14 rotten reviews, but that will probably change.

"The Core" is your basic roller coaster ride of a movie. The premise is that the earth's core has stopped spinning, and for mankind to continue to live on the planet, the core needs to be re-started. This is the story of 6 people in a ship that can cut through just about anything on a journey to the center of the world to jump start the planet.

The setup is pretty decent, though leave your physics aptitude at the door. For a 2 hour film, it doesn't drag all that much, and the performances range from dry (Hilary Swank) to cartoonishly entertaining (Stanley Tucci).

If you are in the mood for a no-brainer kind of film, "The Core" may be just up your alley.

I give it 2.75 stars, or a grade of B- for knowing what kind of film it wanted to be.

Dumbest movie I've seen in quite some time. Total suck-fest... worse than Deep Impact... worse than Sphere. I liked Armageddon and I like to go see big spectacle SFX movies, but this one was so dumb.

Sorry, but you asked for it! The trailer showed exactly what you were gonna be shown, and you still went.

The dialogue was pretty bad and even though I haven't had physics in 11 years I know there were some glaring holes but the movie wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. FX were good and even though it was 2 hours it didn't drag. I certainly won't buy it on DVD but it was a decent ride.

Saw this movie last night, totally an Armageddon rip off. Armageddon was way better. The characters were weak and it was so predictable. Overall the movie was crap in all ways. Only worth a 7 day rental.
