The Pianist vs The Grey Zone
Just curious, if anyone has seen both, and given a chance of life on a desert island with only 1 of the two movies to choose from... which would you prefer? I've only seen the Pianist, but I bought the Grey Zone on a blind buy.
Any opinions (almost afraid to ask)

I've seen both films. My personal favorite is "The Pianist".
The "Grey Zone" is a good film, but for my tastes much too brutal. The graphic depiction of so much inhumanity; image after image of bodies lying in heaps etc....somehow my brain just shuts down and I don't even register the cruelty and pain. "The Pianist" also uses several brutal images, yet it does so in a way that I can watch, because it also achieves moments of truely beautiful human moments within the carnage that is surrounding the characters.

I liked both, but preferred The Pianist because of the directing.
The Grey zone may have had the better story, but a lot of the dialogue felt staged and some of the acting was uneven.

Before I answer your question I have to tell you in viewing a holocaust film you should go into it prepared for an informing and educational film viewing experience. Entertainment factor in a holocaust film means what ? you injoy watching 6 million people in the process of being murdered. Of caurse not. The Pianist is a better film because it had a much bigger budget and it was directed by Palanski. The Grey Zone is a great film but made on a much smaller scale and budget and it shows. Both films are great holocaust films that are very educational. If I were on the island with you I would see them both. Take Care.
