Have Hong Kong movies killed the US Straight to video Martial art film ?
one of my guilty pleasures growing up was renting all those B grade martial art films. I would get out absolutely every one ! (i studied martial arts)
Back then, you had to venture deep into a chinatown to get hold of any Hong Kong movies and it was very difficult for the average video watcher (most knew squat about HK movies)
Now hong kong movies are everywhere and it has just dawned on me that there are hardly any to none new B grade us made martial art films anymore.
do you think this is mainly due to the penetration into mainstream of the Hong kong action film ? which provides far superior fight scenes, like mega far superior
oh well Rest In Peace
Michael Dudikoff
Cynthia Rothrock
Jeff Winicott
Jeff Speakman
Sasha Mitchell
Don the dragon wilson
David Bradley
Loren Avendon
etc etc

OD,
The best we can hope for is a Menahem Golan - Yoram Globus reunion, and the eventually salvation of a whole new cadre of crappy CANNON films.
The Delta Force? Greatest ... movie... EVER.

I see it as a win-win situation. I love HK films but never could stand that US direct to video martial arts crap. Its nice to see HK films available in the mainstream, its just too bad that so many of them are recut and dubbed only (*cough* Miramax *cough*).
