Best sci-fi movie
Here are my top 10 sci-fi movies. Which is #1?
What are the honorable mentions? |
Hard to choose sone real good ones listed, but Aliens has my vote
|
Out of the list I'd say The Matrix. But T2 and Aliens runs a really close second.
You didn't however list Total Recall, Blade Runner and Gattaca. |
Excellent choices all around but, I have to go with Alien as my absolute favorite. No matter how many times I watch it it never seems to get old. Cant' wait for my Quadrilogy set in June!:drool::drool:
You did however forget to include Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956 original) and Forbidden Planet. |
There are so many sub-genres represented that it’s difficult to choose. I tend to see Alien as more horror than sci-fi and Aliens, Star Wars, and T2 as action/adventure. Movies like 2001 and Star Wars couldn’t be more different in terms of intent, approach, or theme. Given the choices, I suppose it comes down to what types of sci-fi one enjoys. My vote: 2001.

I voted for Alien, but if it was on the list I'd vote for Forbidden Planet.
|
Sorry. My vote goes to "Blade Runner" - which is not on your list.
WHY ? |
Empire
|
Blade Runner and Gattaca are my favorites.
From your list. I picked 12 Monkeys. |
I think the list is cleaver's top 10 and not a general top ten sci-fi movie list.
|
DARK CITY.
|
2001: a space odyssey
das Spoiler:
|
Count me in for 2001
|
Alien - It's been my favorite sci-fi movie since I seen it as a kid.
Honorable Mention: Blade Runner, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Terminator. |
best scifi
I have to say that Empire has been a favorite of mine, since I was a kid. I do have to mention that Alien ranks high on the list
|
Hands down..
Braveheart.
'nuff said. [Though I voted for 2001] |
Blade Runner
Where is the original Dune? Star Wars Empire Strikes Back are not sci-fi |
(A little off-topic) Stupid question [puts on flame retardant suit]: But why is Star Wars et al not considered science fiction?
Of the movies listed above I voted for Alien. -BT |

... runs for cover ... das |
The Matrix for me.
|
I voted for 2001.
Alien and Dune (if it were on the list) would be my second and third choices. Originally posted by BT (A little off-topic) Stupid question [puts on flame retardant suit]: But why is Star Wars et al not considered science fiction? Of the movies listed above I voted for Alien. -BT Along similar lines, one could argue whether or not Alien is scifi or horror or both. I see it as both, where I see Aliens as neither. Aliens is more of an action film. I have never seen The Terminator films as scifi either, but I suppose one could make a fair argument there (in regards to the advanced technology). And although it's been a while since I have seen The Road Warrior....scifi? not really in my book. To sum up the whole Star Wars thing, and any of these movies really...different people define the genre differently and consider different movie to be different things. I am not saying that decent arguments cannot be made for either side. My The American Heritage Dictionary, Second Collegiate Edition defines science fiction simply as "Fiction in which actual or potential scientific discoveries and developments form part of the plot". So regarding Star Wars....space travel is enough for some people to see it as scifi. I see it more as a result of the setting than an integral part to the story being told. |
Empire of course. Though if there were no Star Wars film there, I'd have gone with Alien.
|
The Empire Strikes Back is the best scifi
|
Battlefield Earth :D
