Bringing Down the House on the way to make 27 million opening weekend!
Wow. 9.5 million on Friday alone. That's impressive. The movie looks cheesy, but I have to admit that I have laughed during some of the commercials, so I might see this tonight. Tears of the Sun looks to make about 15 or 16 million while Cradle 2 The Grave only made about 1.9 million on Friday, so a pretty big drop off from last week.

I'll see it as well. I don't know why people must always act like pretentious snobs when it comes to certain films. I'm only in it for 90 minutes of escape from the real world.

I figured it would do better than predicted. While it's probably no "Roxanne" or "LA Story," it does look like one of Martin's funnier movies in a while, and Queen Latifah is very 'hot' right now.

I'm glad to see a Steve Martin flick finally making some dough. Father of the Bride was a long time ago.
For those who have seen it, please spoilerize the answer to this question:
Honk!

A friend of mine saw it last night and she said her and her mom loved it. Mind you, they're mostly into artsy fartsy and Foreign films so that's sayin' somethin'.
I for one am glad it's doing well. The last -several times- I saw the trailer with a mixed audience(in both age and racial makeup) the older whites were laughing as hard as the younger coloreds.
I knew it would do well when I saw and heard that.
So all you snobs can go stuff it.

Also, not many people say coloreds anymore, you might want to remember that.

Why did you notice that? You actually looked around the theater and though "Oh, those 'coloreds' are laughing, and so are the older white people, this should be good!"

Bulworth! Now there's a comedy people should check out instead of this.

(and i say this objectively, despite having worked on this film. i actually cannot tell people to go see it, since i cannot objectively critique this movie.. when i saw it, i was being flooded with memories of the production and could not get into the story at all...)on a different note, soxrule, the budget was really close to $30M. having worked on this film (and having stealthly obtained an exact budget breakdown - pre-reshoots), i could give you the exact breakdown if i wanted... but i will never be inclined to do so! (a man's gotta have some sort of ethics, after all..

judging from your previous post, you still have not seen this. i would hold off on giving an opinion on a movie you haven't seen. i know that i have been surprised by movies before, and there's no telling whether or not you might be by this one.. of course, i've also had plenty of suspicions confirmed or even heightened upon seeing movies of a dubious nature... but i don't tell people to avoid a film i haven't seen.

I never got all the praise for Bulworth. I saw it and had low expectations and still found it unmercifully boring with no good performances in sight and the story really did little for me.
On the other hand, I caught Bringing Down the House over the weekend and had a good time. I laughed quite a bit and though some of it wasn't quite original, it was a harmless, enjoyable comedy in my opinion. A good way to waste an afternoon, but it seems like the movie snobs around here don't consider their day complete until they put down a movie they haven't even bothered to see.
