I'm surprised I'm the first one to mention "You'll believe a man can fly"

I liked "This time, it's personal" for Jaws 4, only for sentimental reasons. I was 10 when it came out...and never saw the film.

Buttmunker 03-09-03 04:42 AM

"For God's Sake, Get Out" (Amityville Horror)
good/bad, I'm not sure.

"A Rags To Riches To Rags Story" (The Jerk)
Good.

"Horrors From Outer Space Paralyze The Living And Resurrect The Dead!" (Plan 9 From Outer Space)
Another example of not knowing good/bad due to the nature of the picture.

I saw the trailer yesterday and all I can say is - that was just completely awful and unnecessary.

One of the worst I've seen recently is this one for Hart's War: Heroes are measured by what they do.

B.A. 03-09-03 10:41 AM

One of my favorites - "Get Ready To Root For The Bad Guy" from Payback.

MurraySiskind 03-09-03 10:51 AM

One that's always stuck in my head:

Wayne's World You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll hurl.

DRG 03-09-03 02:41 PM

My all-time fave:
"When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth." - Dawn of the Dead

Other favorites:
"If Nancy Doesn't Wake Up Screaming She Won't Wake Up At All.." - A Nightmare on Elm Street

"If you're not back by midnight... you won't be coming home." - Prom Night

"He knows when you've been naughty!" - Silent Night Deadly Night

Least Favorites:
In the trailer for Minority Report - "On June 21, Everybody Runs!".. or something ot that effect. It's not so much the "Everybody runs" part, but when coupled with the date, just sounds ridiculous to me.

Chad 03-09-03 03:40 PM

I always liked the one for Re-Animator:

"Herbert West Has A Very Good Head On His Shoulders... And Another One In A Dish On His Desk"

And Army Of Darkness:

"Trapped in Time, Surrounded by Evil, Low on Gas"

The worst:

"Good Grief, It's Candy!"

ckolchak 03-10-03 09:12 AM

since my favorites were already mentioned (Jaws2, Superman, Alien) here are some misc ones that strike me funny

"Somebody warn the west, ****** Charley ain't running no more"
- The Legend of ****** Charley

The Brother man in the motherland.
- Shaft in Africa

They transplanted a white bigots head onto a soul brothers body!
- the Thing with Two Heads

How much snake can one woman take?
- Black Cobra

Are mental paitents turned loose too soon?
-The Night runner

Body of a boy!
Mind of a monster!
Soul of an unearthly thing!
-I Was A Teenage Frankenstein

Struz 03-10-03 01:21 PM

Some of my favorites:

"The man with the hat is back and this time he's bringing his dad" - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

"They fought like seven hundred " - The Magnificent Seven

"Every man dies, not every man lives" - Braveheart

"Everything is suspect, everyone is for sale and nothing is as it seems" - LA Confidential

mookyman 03-10-03 03:46 PM

BEST - "The night he came home," Halloween

WORST - From Just Visiting, "They're not just from the past, they're from France!"

Tyler_Durden 03-11-03 11:55 AM

I sincerely hope they eventually come up with better taglines for Kill Bill than "The 4th Film By Quentin Tarantino" and "Uma Thurman Is Going To...".

Buttmunker 03-11-03 11:56 AM

Not great, not terrible:

"Hollywood Had It Coming"
-Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back

Cusm 03-11-03 12:23 PM

"The Citizen Cane of Alcoholic Clown Movies" - Shakes the Clown

Muad'Dib 05-17-05 03:26 PM

Another vote for In space no one can hear you scream - Alien

lordwow 05-17-05 04:04 PM

Some of my favorites:

"Fate Has Chosen Him. A Fellowship Will Protect Him. Evil Will Hunt Them." - LOTR:FOTR

"They travelled back where 23rd century man had never gone before. To a mad, crazy, outrageous time: 1986." - Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

"Some memories are best forgotten." - Memento

"Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire." - Schindler's List

"Forget everything you know. Forget everything you've seen. On April 2, The Matrix has you." - The Matrix

whoopdido 05-17-05 08:36 PM

I always kinda liked "Something has survived" from The Lost World

Some other good ones:

"Whoever wins...we lose" from AvP
"Houston, we have a problem" from Apollo 13
"They're here" and "They're back" from Poltergeist I and II

and a really bad one:
"The creators of JAWS and STAR WARS now bring you the ultimate hero in the ultimate adventure" from Raiders of the Lost Ark

Here's a cool website that has a bunch of stuff like classic quotes and taglines, etc

http://www.filmsite.org/index.html

QuiGonJosh 05-18-05 08:33 AM

They Live: "You think they're people just like you. You're wrong. Dead wrong."

In the Mouth of Madness: "Lived any good books lately?"

Halloween: "The night HE came home."

What is it with Carpenter and cool taglines...

Conan the Barbarian: "Thief. Warrior. Gladiator. King."

Filmmaker 05-18-05 11:52 AM

ALIEN probably takes the prize here, but I also love some of the ones for its first sequel:

"Now there's a whole planet of them...waiting"
"There are some places in the universe you don't go alone"

ALIEN3 also has the misleading, but still badass, "The bitch is back"

Several of the STAR TREK tags are gems:

"The human adventure is just beginning"
"At the end of the universe lies the beginning of vengeance"
"The battle for peace has begun" (though its reworking for STAR TREK: INSURRECTION's tagline--"The battle for paradise has begun"--was weak)

Some other greats from the BACK TO THE FUTUREs:

"He was never in time for his classes...He wasn't in time for his dinner...Then one day...he wasn't in his time at all." -- BACK TO THE FUTURE

"It's about time" -- BACK TO THE FUTURE, PART II

And a personal favorite (you can't tell me this isn't tagline perfection):

"Before a lifetime of adventure, they had the adventure of a lifetime" -- YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES

Sorry, but I'll mock this tagline until the end of time. It helped write nearly every critic's review. "We sure do lose, we being the audience that is."

I also laugh out loud everytime I think of the goofy tagline for The 13th Floor: You can go there, even though it doesn't exist.

And the worst tagline ever? I don't know where it originated, but you see it on every third direct to video horror piece of crap that comes out: Evil Never Sleeps (or) Dies.
