Dawn of the Dead being remade

CNN Entertainment

I'm sure people will complain, but seriously, if it sucks, don't watch it. :)

I wouldn't mind seeing this, if it's not remade into some teen slasher type. We'll see...

I did find this encouraging:

He was once set to direct "S.W.A.T.," only to depart because he wanted to make an R-rated film.
Hopefully they can make it violent and gory. :)

I don't know... it looks like it could possibly turn out that way

The update aims to place a greater emphasis on action and a young cast.
We'll have to wait and see.

I don't think anything can beat the original... it just has that nostalgic effect on people.

Jackskeleton 03-06-03 11:30 AM

Ooooh, a young cast and a horror movie.. wait, isn't this done every other week in the other crappy horror teen films/

Think about it...how can we know if it sucks unless we watch it?

Giles 03-06-03 11:49 AM

If they think they can remake this movie with an R-rating they have to be joking. Leave this alone...

zero 03-06-03 11:50 AM

I'm with Jack on this one, whenever a sequel is made for a horror franchise they have to cast young "teen" actors who are really in their 20's. "Dawn" is a classic, but if remade should be just as violent if not more violent :). Sure violence doesnt make a movie but you cant deny the special effects in the original "Dawn".

Mazinger 03-06-03 12:04 PM

Since this is a remake and not an original idea then it will definately suck.

:D

Giantrobo 03-06-03 06:05 PM

I hope they get rid of the silly attempts at humor this time around....

Charlie Goose 03-06-03 06:40 PM

There's one problem I see with a group of people holing up in a shopping mall. If something like this happens (not zombies per se, but anything end-of-worldish), the nearest shopping mall is the first place that will be totally ransacked and looted. I know, I know, could I focus on a more minor detail? However, even though that always bothered me, it didn't take anything away from my enjoyment of the movie.

Besides, when was the last time we had a really good zombie flick? The emphasis on a "young cast" does worry me though. I'd rather not see a cult horror classic given the teenybopper treatment. *shakes cane feebly*

DRG 03-06-03 07:44 PM

This is from the writer of the Scooby Doo movie... how can it go wrong??? ;)

Seriously though... a writer with less-than-impressive credentials teaming with a commerical director and a cast of WB rejects most likely. I can't imagine this being especially good. However, I'm planning on judging this thing as its own being and not as a remake. I actually hope they change it drastically enough that it doesn't just seem like a bastardized version of the original.

thecrazydude 03-06-03 10:42 PM

the orginial Dawn is a classic, but i will give the remake a chance.

TylerDurden_73 03-07-03 10:26 AM

"The story benefits from a larger canvas, and the fact that malls have changed so much," said rights controller Richard P. Rubinstein, who produced the original, "There are all kinds of things we can use, down to the food courts. George did a lot with a pedestrian mall in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, where the only real highlight was a hockey rink."
This quote is funny. The Undead care about where they Shop? Who cares what's in the mall, the setting is the same.
This is further evidence of the upcoming apocalypse.

Azazoth 03-07-03 11:03 AM

I hope they call it Zombies vs The Mallrats.

yecul 03-07-03 11:35 AM

While this probably won't have the social commentary and whatnot, if they can make a nice, gory, horror/action flick, I'd be satisfied.

I'll be trying to think of it as less of a remake and more of an unoriginal zombie movie with a familiar title. Hey, there has to be some sort of catch line to get it made...

Of course, I won't expect much. Bad writer, unknown director... hm, interesting combo.

Julie Walker 03-07-03 12:28 PM

While the film will most likely blow chunks. The writer did get his start in Troma with Tromeo & Juliet. Thus he's no stranger to extreme gross out gore & violence + explicit sex/nudity.

Still he went Hollywood for Scooby Doo & well i'm sure will play by the systems 'rules' & aim for a gorless piece of crap R rating like the equally dry Resident Evil which would have benifited greatly from alot of over the top gore!

+ the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake does'nt look so hot either.I mean they claim they;re trying to make a 'real' low budget film & not your usual Scream-clone cast.Yet they still resort to WB stars & known people???

Hello..if they want to make a 'real' low budget film.**** the system..& go out on your own with a tiny budget of one million or less..& unknown stars who do NOT look like models with perfect features, but everyday people to be truely effective!

Another reason why the original TCm & many earlier horror films. The original Dawn included rule & are far better than studio horror films today.I liked Scream, but the studios must be retarded to keep copying that film by useing well known stars from tv.

cooper2000 03-07-03 01:46 PM

Undoutedly they much it up with too much action, head munching and explosions and make a PG13 so kids can see it so they can get big boxoffice opening weekend.
Thats what Hollywood does.
I mean look what they did with Vanilla sky.

yecul 03-07-03 01:59 PM

explicit sex/nudity.
So, at least there ought to be something worthwhile. Thanks for the heads up.

Terrell 03-07-03 02:25 PM

Considering how godawful the original was, I'm not going to complain about this being remade. However, it's a good possibility the remake will suck moose tool as well.

So Ms. Cleo tomorrow's winning lotto numbers are what again?

Trout 03-08-03 02:02 PM

I really wonder how much gore will be in this film (considering it will be by a mainstream studio). With todays political climate it will probably be bloodless (plus the MPAA will be all over this one...)

...and don't feed the trolls.
