Denzel Washington...

Watched an awards show last night that honored Denzel. It as nothing special just a lot of his past co-stars doing the fawning bit.

The thing that got me, though, was the realization that this guy has turned in some mighty good performances. So, I'm curious. What's your favorite Denzel performance, not movie, performance ?? I keep flip-flopping between Training Day, Malcolm X and Hurricane.......

Okay, officially I'll go with Malcolm X..

For now.

I've always loved his performance in GLORY, but I'd have ta go with MALCOLM X as well. Very powerful...and a consistent performance through all of the many different facets of Malcolm's life.

It's either Devil in a Blue Dress or Philadelphia.

My vote is for either Devil in a Blue Dress or Courage Under Fire. He was also excellent in Cry Freedom, but the movie sucked

But why does he make so much crap ? Virtuosity, Training Day, The Bone Collector, John Q, Fallen, The Preacher's Wife, Remember the Titans, what is that crap?

It all depends on your taste as to if you feel a movie is crap. I personally enjoyed RTT as it is one of the better "feel good" sports movies. The facet that makes him such an excellent actor is that if you take him out of any of his movies, good or bad and replace him with any actor you want, the movie will suffer greatly.

Favorite Performance: Malcolm X (one of the most underated movies ever)

Malcolm X by a long shot, it was flat wrong he didn't get an Oscar for that. Training Day was good but not Oscar worthy IMO.

I actually watched some of this.

But I thought. They are going to show the whipping scene from Glory. Which is not even the best scene with him.

I just feel that it is forced to be shown "because he sheds a tear".

His best performance, IMO:

Malcolm X

Malcolm X -- one of the best performances of the nineties.

Malcolm X, but this was a tough call, as Philadelphia, Glory, Mo Better Blues, and Training Day are all fantastic as well.

I really can't pick one, but of all the movies he's had I'd pick: Training Day, Malcom X, and The Hurricane. I should probably also see Glory soon though

I totally agree. I also think his work in Mississipi Masala is underrated as well...

Glory

While I liked his performance in Training Day, as stated above, it was not Oscar worthy but many others were.

However, he excels in every role he plays. No matter what it is, he's there 110%. [rant]His stardom has not gone to his head to the point where he asks $20 million just to consider a role. [/rant]

This, is what puts him way above the rest.

Man tough decision. Malcolm X kicks major butt and I agree it was just wrong he didn't get the oscar for that one. Devil in a Blue dress has a great performance as well but Don Cheadle really steals that movie for me (talk about and underrated actor). He also turned in great performances in The Siege and A Soldier's Story. Way too many to choose from (and hey, I liked Fallen).

I would have to say Hurricane but have not seen Malcolm X.

I also agree the Training Day was NOT an oscar worthy performance had more to do with politics than anything else (surprise) I thought Hurricane WAS oscar worthy and think he should have won for that. Who did he run up against for Malcolm X? oh yeah and basketball diaries. he was good in that one as well.

One beef that I do have is that he plays the same role in all his movies. esp recently (Hurricane and newer) He just playes the same powerful all up in your face role. I personally am impressed with actors who can play very different roles.
