Favorite Director?

It's pretty self-explanatory. Sorry if I made any spelling errors.

*edit*
most people are complaining about my short list of directors to choose from. I wanted to see who was everyones favorite director out of the ones in my list, not everyones favorite director of all time. Besides, if I listened to everybody's comments, then the list would be too long.

Giles 02-23-03 10:36 PM

I thought the poll would have been a fill in the blanks kind of answer, um... Peter Jackson

my favourite director really is Ken Loach though.

Robert 02-23-03 11:03 PM

How could you leave out Oliver Stone?!?!

ryuryu2949 02-23-03 11:05 PM

Based on his 2 movies being two of my top 10 or 15 of all time, I would have to say Spike Jonze (being john malkovich and adaptation).

Mountain Biker 02-23-03 11:15 PM

John Carpenter is my favorite.

Mutley Hyde 02-23-03 11:17 PM

Where the heck is Alan Smithee???

garmonbozia 02-23-03 11:18 PM

one of my top three favs is actually on that short list.......STANLEY KUBRICK

Ginwen 02-23-03 11:47 PM

We don't get an other choice, or at least who do you like best from this list?

Anyway, I can't decide. Maybe Orsen Welles, or Francis Ford Coppola (in spite of the fact that he hasn't made a great movie for years, he had a great run there). Also considered Wes Anderson, Hitchcock, and Billy Wilder.

From your list, I'd probably pick Scorcese.

JonTurner 02-23-03 11:49 PM

No Hitchcock????????

I vote close thread, add Hitch, Hawkes, Stone, and either Welles, Ford or the Coens AND change title to favorite AMERICAN director (which if u do, then scratch Hitch and Jackson (who shouldn't be on the list in the first place, not yet at least) and add the others).

By the way, my vote is Kubrick, closely followed by Hitchcock, then Spielberg and Scorcese would be my #3 and 4.

the narrator 02-23-03 11:57 PM

i'd have to go with spielberg

DumDum 02-23-03 11:58 PM

Out of the list I would say Tarantino. Although I do like Scorsese, Kubrick and Fincher.
My favorite though would have to be David Lynch

evenflow 02-24-03 12:09 AM

Wes Anderson. All 3 of his movies are in my top 30.

ToddSm66 02-24-03 12:20 AM

Billy Wilder

kenny79 02-24-03 12:48 AM

Fincher fan here.

All the best movies are made by Alan Smithee, but that goes without saying. :p

Also conspicuously absent from the poll are two of my favorites:
 • Akira Kurosawa
 • Terry Gilliam

Corleone 02-24-03 12:50 AM

My favorite Alan Smithee work was:

Joan Rivers and Friends Salute Heidi Abromowitz (1985)

MrX 02-24-03 01:37 AM

Out of those probably Steven Spielberg

davidlynchfan 02-24-03 03:09 AM

Kubrick out of that Class.

Geofferson 02-24-03 08:07 AM

Alfred Hitchcock is my fave.

Samuel 02-24-03 09:23 AM

Jim Jarmusch. :)

LBPound 02-24-03 09:25 AM

From these choices, definitely Spielberg. Heck, pretty much from any choices, Spielberg.

movielib 02-24-03 09:31 AM

There's a gap as big as Siberia between all the fine directors on this list and the Farrelly Brothers.

Well, Hitchcock was an American filmmaker in that he made American films (all his films from Rebecca in 1940 to Family Plot in 1976 were American films).

wendersfan 02-24-03 01:49 PM

This is the saddest excuse for a poll I've yet seen in this forum. We get the Farrelly Brothers and Peter Jackson, but no Orson Welles and Jean Renoir. Yeah, right.

My favorite director is Wim Wenders, followed by John Ford, Jean-Luc Godard, Ingmar Bergman, and Wong Kar-Wai.

Also, learn to spell Scorsese's name right.
