Whatever happened to Jenny Wright (Near Dark) ?

Greetings all !

Just finished watching Near Dark and I forgot how cool the bar scene was ("I hate' em when they ain't been shaved" )

Anyway on the second disc there's a documentary with interviews. Adrian Pasdar talks about Jenny Wright in the past tense and kinda makes a plea to her that he misses her or something.

It just sounded weird, like she vanished out of thin air... I checked IMDB and it says she quit the movie business in 1998.

I guess I found my answer but that interview with Pasdar still feels odd.

Josh, you have echoed my thoughts exactly (unfortunately, I have no answers or insight to offer). I remember seeing the Wall, the Chocolate War, and Near Dark around the same time and found her to be oddly alluring and talented...

I last remember her in The Lawnmower Man and then she seemed to vanish.

She was last in something in 1998

I imagine like most women, she got married, squeezed out a couple of kids, put on 50 lbs. and found there were no roles for aging, stretch-marked, fat ladies (excepting Kathy Bates in About Schmidt).

I heard she quit acting a few years back.

Can't say that I blame her since roles for women weren't exactly all that thriving in the early to mid 90s.

I have a friend in San Diego who swears she sees Jenny Wright around town. But you can't exactly walk up to someone and say "Are you Jenny Wright, the actress?" unless you want to make an ass of yourself.

I was thinking about her the other weekend when I was watching the Near Dark supplements - I think even on the commentary the actor's ask what ever happened to her - I don't remember the answer. (sorry).

I thought she would have been the perfect "Blair" in "Less Than Zero".....but they fucked up the film version so horribly, I'm glad she was not in it.

I remember her most specifically from an episode of "Crime Story", where she played a Monroe-like starlet.

Since she had a topless scene in The Wild Life, that one's pretty much my favorite (although I realize she was briefly topless in The Wall). I also remember her from Out Of Bounds with Anthony Michael Hall.

She just pretty much looks good in anything she was in.

I really liked her earlier roles in "The World According to Garp" and "The Executioner's Song." Some of the really lame movies she was put into later -- "Valentino Returns" or "Out of Bounds" -- made me feel like she was being wasted. And I feel sad that so many people remember her as the girl who was topless in a scene in X or Y movie -- she did some good work with her shirt ON that is under-appreciated.

Somebody just emailed me the link to this youtube video. Yello made it in 1983 for the song "Lost Again." Oh yeah ...

I'd forgotten all about it, but it's a good fix for hard core Jenny addicts.

Also, in December 2006, Anne Flournoy's nine-minute short film, "Nadja Yet," premiered at revver.com and it's still there. I don't have any idea when it was made, but judging from Jenny's appearance I'd guess mid-1980s.

At the risk of offending Vibiana further, I probably best remember her for her small role in Garp, both because of the topless scene and the fact that she was so damn pretty (clothed or otherwise).

In The Wild Life, didn't she have her hair cut short and was the love interest of Chris Penn's character? I only vaguely remember that movie.

You're not offending me. I know that part of the reason Jenny is so well remembered is both her good looks and her perky ... er, personality. I just think it's kind of a shame that her best work in movies like "Near Dark" and "I Madman" -- with no nude scenes -- is not as well-recalled as her boobs in "Pink Floyd The Wall" and so on.

And yes, she did play Eileen, the girlfriend of Chris Penn's character Tom in The Wild Life.

Re: Whatever happened to Jenny Wright (Near Dark) ?

Hi all -

I was the casting director on I, Madman. Unfortunately Jenny did not marry a rich businessman and is now a mom; she has left LA and is with her family.

Actually, no she didn't. I was the casting director of I, Madman.

Jenny has left the business and is living with her mom and family.

I heard a rumor that she left the business and is living with her mom and family. I wish we could get confirmation from somebody who knew her.

Supposedly the casting director from I, Madman knows the real story. If we could somehow find him, I'm sure he could clear this up.
