Does the hotel used in "The Shining" actually exist?
I read awhile back that the “Overlook Hotel” in the 1980 film “The Shining” actually exists. Only the exterior though. It is the “Timberline Lodge” located on Mt. Hood in Oregon. I’ve also heard that the interior was created just in some studios outside of London. Now I’ve watched the behind the scenes to “The Shining” and the hotel looks like an existing place. How could they put that much work into creating a hotel like that just for “The Shining”. Is this fact or is there some secret location in the world where the interior was filmed?

Actually, The Prince of Wales hotel in Canada (Winnepeg, I think) was the exterior for the film - they added phony wings and a mountain backdrop, though, as the hotel is on the water in reality.

The interior, believe it or not, is indeed a set!
But the interior set was inspired by several real hotels and lodges, principally the Ahwahnee in Yosemite. Check out the pics in this link, second picture down:

The first time I walked into the place it scared the hell out of me.
The main hall where jack does his "writing" is verbatim from the Ahwahnee. The other thing the Ahwahnee has is the black and red doors that were integrated into the set. When I was a kid I thought they had actually filmed the movie there, because it is so similar. The Indian motiffs on the floor are simialar, as are the black and red doors that were integrated into the set in London.

6- Where is the real Overlook hotel used in The Shining?
The Overlook hotel exists only on film. All principal photography for the film was shot at the EMI studios in Borehamwood, England. While the exterior, establishing shots of the Overlook are of a real hotel--the Timberline Lodge near Mt. Hood in Oregon--the interior of that hotel is completely different than the Overlook depicted in the film, and there is no hedge maze outside. A facade of the rear of the Timberline Lodge and the hedge maze were built on the studio lot in England. The interior sets were modeled on various hotels from around the United States. For example, the blood red mens-room was modeled on a mens-room in a hotel in Arizona designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The opening sequence showing the car driving up mountain roads was shot in Glacier National Park in Montana.
