Scene Stealers

Which actor (or actors) do you think is a scene stealer? For me, I think Toni Collette absolutely steals every scene she's in no matter who's in it with her. Good or bad movie, she's truly a gifted actress (IMO).

It's been noted many times, but Natalie Portman's character in "Beautiful Girls" was great.

Off the top of my head.... when I think scene stealers I usually think comedic so....

Dan Hedaya: Dick, Joe vs. the Volcano, "Cheers"
Eugene Levy: Serendipity, American Pie, Waiting for Guffman

Just recently I noticed that John C. Reilly stole every scene he was in for both Chicago and The Hours (Toni Collette also stole her scene in The Hours). Reilly didn't steal the scene in Gangs of New York (competing against Daniel Day-Lewis and all), but usually he can steal 'em as well as anyone.

that was him singing in "Chicago", right? That's what really surprised me in seeing the movie. I thought he also was the highlight, for me at least, in "Magnolia."

Robert Downey Jr - Natural Born Killers, his portrayal of a tabloid talk show host is inspired
Joe Pesci - Lethal Weapon 2
Val Kilmer - Tombstone
Ted Knight - Caddyshack, he has some of the funniest lines in the movie and that laugh he does is had me

my first though when i saw this thread was "JOHN C. REILLY"... I'd also agree with Owen Wilson, in general in a comedy this guy rules, steals lots of scenes in ZOOLANDER.

this will sound weird but one of the biggest scene stealing performances I can think of, is... THE BABY in Erin Brockovich... I thought that baby was incredible and stole every scene... I am not even kidding...

MATT

and of course, Daniel-Day Lewis in Gangs of New York

I didn't catch all of her scenes, I'll admit. I closed my eyes during the hot tub scene.

Albeit small, Connery in Robin Hood: Prince of Theives.

When he showed up, nothing else mattered.

Jim Carrey's three sons in Me, Myself and Irene. It takes a lot to upstage Jim Carrey but these guys did it in every one of their scenes.

Jack Black stole every scene in High Fidelity, he was just so funny, not to mention when he started to sing near the end of the movie...

That kid from Jerry MaGuire, oh yah, Cuba Gooding Jr was pretty damn good too

Julianne Moore's son "Bug" in The Hours was also a huge scene stealer. He had no lines, but you just couldn't keep your eyes off him!
Spoiler:
And by the end of the film we know WHY!

Did you see The Hours with a different soundtrack than I did? "Bug" had plenty of lines. Too many, in fact. He was the worst part of the film, for me. If he didn't have any lines, I would have liked him a lot more.

Christopher Walken in every scene of every movie he's been in.
In the beginning of Catch Me If You Can,

Spoiler:
as he is accepting his Rotary Club membership
, he starts talking in that crazy Star Trek original series era Captain Kirk style speech anunciation that he does so well. I always half expect him to say something like, [Christopher Walken] "and beCAUSE of THAT, you have all.....disaPOINTed me....and for THAT, I'm afraid....you'll have to SUFFER...the CONSequences..." [/Christopher Walken] and suddenly pull out a machine gun and start mowing people down. He's just comes across as kinda nuts and I never expect what he is about to say or do in any scene, and for that he always has my complete attention.

I'm going to guess the projectionist misframed your showing, cropping off some of the more drooping bits.
