How many movies have you seen?

AKA how many of us have no life and can indulge our passion.

Curious what amount of films we have all seen.

Do you tend to watch only certain types of films, those that you have a reasonable expectation of liking, or pretty much anything within reason?

About the only genre I don't pursue is horror other than some select ones that appear to have potential beyond a genre picture or those that have good word of mouth.

Thats why there are ranges.

It isn't meant to be an exact representation just a general conversation.

I actually am keeping count. Of course I can't remember which films I've seen when I was, say, six years old, but I do believe that the current number, 1696, at IMDb's "My Movies" list is fairly accurate. (Listing films using the aforementioned function is great because it's kind of an automatic side effect of giving star ratings to movies at IMDb).

a better question would be How many GOOD movies have you seen?

quantity over quality?

And that is covered here.

Do you leave them under the votes area or duplicate them to one of the other categories? I recently added mine to main area once I realized you can add notes on each film (yes, I have been using it for over a year and just became aware of this ability.. overlooking the obvious again).

How long did it take you to find the movies you have seen to add them all? I have been putting this off for awhile since I think it would take forever.

I think I can say with some accuracy that I've seen enough of around 800 films to have actually "seen" them. I'd guess that maybe half of those I have seen in the past few years, though.

How accurate can this poll be? It's like asking how many hairs are on your head. While you may have a general idea but.... Come on!!

Well, I own almost 1,000 DVD's, and there are at least 1,000 more movies that I would buy, which means I've seen more than 2000.

This is a scary question. Makes me look at how much time I have spent watching movies over the years.

I am now 40 and have been watching TV movies since about 5 years old, gone to many movies in the theater (much more as an adult than as a kid) and I own 186 DVDs.

Without counting watching movies for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th...times, I would put my count around...

700 movies in 35 years.

That puts it about an average of 20 per year. My younger days had fewer movies compared to the movies I have watched over the past 12 years.

No, I just use the "My Movies" list. I should try what you suggested, though.
How long did it take you to find the movies you have seen to add them all?
Not that long, although every once in a while I remember another movie I've seen in my childhood.

I compiled the list in roughly the following order:

1. the ones I own
2. the ones I used to own (on VHS)
3. the most recent ones I saw on TV
4. the ones I've seen in theaters (I have a separate list for these)
5. the ones I remember from my childhood (TV, VHS etc.)

After that, I started looking at directors' and actors' filmographies and adding films I'd seen from them to the list. Then I went by genre, e.g. by reminiscing about what horror films I've seen.

Anybody over the age of 20 hanging out in this forum has certainly seen 2,000 plus.

Looking at your ranges, I have to feel that either (a) I'm much older than most others on this forum or (b) I love movies more or (c) I have less of a life.

I probably average about 2 movies per day. Lots of nights I'll watch 1-2 films, some days I will sit through half a dozen films, and -- of course -- there are some days when I don't watch any.

But, I'd guess that I've watched 2000+ films just in the past few years. I'm not sure how many over my entire life, but it's waaaay more than 2000.

Probably 5000+ in my case, but who knows, it could be far fewer. Only a small percentage are ones I'd want to own on DVD.

Are you counting the movies you have watched more than once?

If I add up the multi times I have watched all the movies I love, now we are well over 10,000 movies.

If you count only "Movies" (once or more than once), my count is around 700.
