FOTR and/or TTT Best of the past 10 years?

My husband and I are trying to figure out whether or not Fellowship of the Rings and Two Towers are the best or one of the best of the last decade of films.

When we look at the last decade you have Silence of the Lambs clearly earning one of the top movies of the decade. Pulp Fiction is also up there. I am not sure that Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies can surpass these movies. Can FOTR and TTT hold up as one of the best movies in the last decade or even the last 20 years? I suspect so. You can look at the last 10-20 years and find some really solid, memorable films. FOTR and TTT rise to the top of the films in the past 10-20 years not because it can compete with all time 5 star classics from the past, but because the past couple of decades movie making has changed and not for the better.

Best Films in last 20 years (not necessarily in order)
1. Silence of the Lambs
2. Pulp Fiction
3. Amadeus
4. Fellowship of the Ring
5. Aladdin
6. Fargo

{before I get flamed I have excluded many of my own favorite films ie. Awakenings, Killing Fields, Last Emperor, Brazil, Usual Suspects, Spinal Tap, etc. I have excluded TTT because I am not sure if it would make it.}

If you hold either of the Jackson films up to films of 1981 or earlier decades, I do not think they hold up as well. Does Fellowship of the Ring hold up to Wizard of Oz? Seven Samurai? Hidden Fortress? Network? Raiders of the Lost Ark (21 years ago)Casablanca? Lawrence of Arabia?

Best movie? I don't know. That's definately subjective. The best movie isn't always your favorite. FOTR is definately my favorite movie, though.
