Who?? The only three names I recognize there (possibly) is Gene Wilder, Charlie Chaplin, and Buster Keaton. Gene Wilder was funny, I recall enjoying his movies when I was younger, but Chaplin never appealed to me. The only thing I saw him do, tho was some stuipd bread with forks dance that is nodded to in Benny and Joon. Wasn't funny when Chaplin did it, wasn't funny in Benny and Joon. And Buster Keaton? I've heard great things about him but never saw a movie.

As I said before, my list is only my personal top ten at this time. If I was making the list several years ago, I am sure Silver Streak would be on there. I loved that movie growing up. This is my current list, subject to change. I am sorry, but I don't think that the "greatest" lists can ever be definitive. All of them, even the AFI's, are all subjective.

Why is it sad that someone doesn't find the 'classic' comedies funny? Adam Sandler makes me laugh more than Charlie Chaplin or Buster Keaton, as uncool and 'sacrelige' as that is to say. I don't at all dismiss old films, but a lot (particularly comedies) do not hold up well, in my opinion. It's not all that surprising that something that was hilarious seventy years ago (like say, It Happened One Night) just doesn't do it for some people today.

That's a good point and that's probably a good explanation for why comedies are so often overlooked on "Greatest Films" lists. In general, they age worse than most other movies.

FYI, "greatest" and "favorite" aren't the same. That said, I hate lists so please continue.
